Christina Ricci Talks Rape With Congress

May 7th, 2007 · No Comments · Tagged as Christina Ricci

Christina Ricci is heading to Washington on Monday to meet members of the US Congress as a spokeswoman for the Rape, Abuse and Incest network.

Christina says child sex abuse “enrages her” and is determined to do all she can to highlight victims’ plights.

The actress will present Congress with ideas on how to raise awareness of the issue later this month.

“Our society is running rampant with these victims who desperately need treatment. Murder is a horrible crime but with rape you leave living victims. There should be zero tolerance for that kind of behavior, zero,” Christina said.

“The rate of revictimisation is a huge problem. A woman that is raped as a child is five times more likely to be raped as an adult. An adult rape victim is 40 per cent more likely to be raped again in her lifetime.”

“When I read those statistics, my blood went cold. I just couldn’t be more angry about it.”
