Hey, does anyone remember Chris Sligh? You know, the former American Idol finalist with a big voice, even bigger hair, and a startling resemblance to Sideshow Bob? Well, the singer has risen from the ashes of obscurity with words of warning for aspiring singers hoping to appear on the TV talent competition: Idol doesn’t guarantee a successful career in music.

The 31-year-old singer — who recently released his debut album — finished tenth on the sixth season of Idol in 2007. Chris took to his Offical Blog on Friday to caution Season 8 contestants that their “days of being a star” will soon be over. In fact, most former Idols can hang up their hopes of ever reaching superstardom — or even becoming a one hit wonder — if Chris’ theory is to be believed.

“This season of Idol was one of the most talented, if history repeats itself the majority of these Idols will do nothing in music… Not trying to be mean, just being real,” Chris wrote. “Chances are you’ll never feel the rush of playing in front of 10,000 people who care about you again. Your star is waning and remarkably quickly.”

Sadly, he has a point…

“You’re not going to be successful. You’re not going to be millionaires (with the exception of maybe Kris [Allen] and Adam [Lambert]). You are going to struggle. No one will care about you,” he continued. “Those fans who’ve been asking for your autograph all tour long – 98% of them don’t give a flying poo about you once next season of Idol starts. They’re not going to buy your album when you put it out two years late.”

He added: “In other words, your days of being a star are over. But that’s alright – so are mine. And I’m one of the most successful for my season of Idol. I’m not a star. Chances are I never again will be.”

Sheesh — we’re glad to hear you’re keeping an optimistic outlook, Chris. On an up note, Chris does suggest former Idols dedicated themselves to music and consider moving to a arts-centered city.
