Chris Brown Rihanna Beating Reenactment PSA (DoSomething.org)
The “alleged” beating of pop star Rihanna has inspired an new public service announcement about the dangers of dating violence.
The PSA was put together by teen interest organization DoSomething.org, it features actors re-enacting the “Umbrella” singer’s brutal confrontation with R&B hitmaker Chris Brown pieced together by statements made in the LAPD’s affidavit of the Feb. 8 incident, in which Chris reportedly punched, bit, and choked Rihanna.
Dating abuse is a serious issue. 1 in 3 teens is abused in a relationship. Let’s fight to stop youth dating abuse. Join DoSomething.org’s 1 in 3 Campaign to make a statement, stop the abuse and keep teenagers safe, the group says in a statement on YouTube.
“We didn’t want to be overdramatic,” says Nancy Lublin, CEO of DoSomething.org. “Our goal was not to shoot a Lifetime TV movie. … There was no need to sensationalize things. It was bad enough.”
“The public is very focused right now on Chris and Rihanna,” Nancy continued. “I think people need to realize that this is an issue that goes beyond those particular people, and it affects everybody of every race. And so we wanted this to not be an exact re-enactment. We wanted instead to say: Could this be you?”

I’m not sure which is more shocking – the portrayal of violence or the dismissal of it by so many , especially teens. There’s no circumstance in which the level of violence by Brown would be excusable, explainable or acceptable. Is it that young girls are such fans that they have a hard time believing that someone they dream about could be so violent and hurt someone so badly? Why does anyone think it’s okay to fight like this and hurt someone they supposedly love? What would you want people to do if you were hurt by the person you’re dating – support you, believe you, and worry about your safety? or blame you and stand by the person who beat you up?

The PSA is the best thing I’ve seen in regard to dating violence. It was tastefully made and really brings to light an issue that many teens and adults face every day. They are even giving away bracelets to make people aware of this! dosomething.org is an amazing organization. Keep doing great things. I hope people will realize that they don’t have to be stuck in an abusive relationship– no matter what society– or celebrities make them think!

i do not condone any type of violence but i feel everyone is crucifying cb before he can explain his side of the story.it takes 2 to tango and i kno he wasnt fighting alone. alot of sources r saying she was hitting him with her stilleto heel which made him lash out and if thats the case y isnt the video showing the violence women can do towards men cuz thats also considered domestic violence.i feel women take the man not hitting a woman thing overboard but if women dont want a man to hit them, women shud keep their hands to themselves also. That applies to men, women, and children.its not fair everyone is on her side becuz shes a woman(and im a woman) and theres no doubt he beat her,and yes it was wrong but i think ppl shud atleast wait awhile before jumping to conclusions of what happened just from listening to one persons side.and i hate how everyone is all of a sudden so concerned about dating violence but didnt give to fudge cakes about it before.riri and cb i hope the best for u and hope u resolve this issue as adults and move on and this two shall pass.

they just deserve each other. they both abused each other– verbally, physically and emotionally one way of another. what keeps? let’s leave them alone– until they hug the limelight again, and hopefully not worse than what had already transpired between them.
i can only hope i’m wrong.

It makes me sick these girls are so horny for a singer, they think its OK for him to beat his girlfriend. That is NEVER OK. You really want to stand by some punk who hits women? I am beyond disgusted. No woman deserves to be choked, hit and bit by her man. However you girls who are still so goo goo eyes for him come close. How would you feel if you were her?!?!? Well guess what you easily could be!!

as an abuse victim, I can tell you that this PSA doesn’t depict the real level of rage and violence going down in that car that night. Just look at Rhianna’s face in the picture. I realize the actors aren’t really mad and can’t really hurt each other, so it’s hard. Chris Brown is a very sick individual and Rhianna should love herself enough to run away as fast as she can.

The girls saying they still “love” Chris are the same ones with IQs of two digits who think O.J. was innocent. And Briitani, it’s “you’re”, not “your” in your third post. Love the spelling and grammar from “anonymous,” too. With that level of intelligence, I would remain “anonymous,” too.

you guys are acting sooo stupid. just because its chris brown doesnt mean its “no big deal”. when michael jackson got tried for his crimes, it was “a big deal” just because he was michael jackson. most teens didnt care. but when its chris brown, “he’s innocent.” “it wasnt his fault.” “just a bump in the road is all.” WAKE UP. stop being so naive. dont act like you know something that you dont know.

The lesson here is quite simple, it is wrong to abuse someone male or female and no one deserves to be abused. If everyone learned that simple lesson, we could end dating abuse and domestic violence today. Who could be against that? The problem is that abuse comes a person believing the other person deserves the abuse, that they need to be taught a lesson. The other problem is learning to control one’s anger–we don’t really teach that. Why don’t we?

i think that there is a way to still remain a fan of chris browns music while also being against domestic violence. we may never know EXACTLY what happened in the car that day, but something clearly went wrong. nancy lublin, the orgs ceo put it great when she said that clearly these two are talented performers, but that doesn’t really mean anything besides the fact that they are good at their jobs. domestic violence is a serious issue no matter what. it’s also not a new issue. just because it has been brought to light in this context doesn’t mean that only it only happens in hollywood. didn’t they say that 1 in 3 teens were affected- good lord! this is obviously something widespread that really needs to be addressed somewhere other than TMZ.

I think this PSA has done a wonderful job of recreating how horrifying this incident was and how horrifying incidents like it are. Do Something’s campaign is making the public aware that this is a serious issue and there is no excusing what happened. They are doing a great job of getting the facts out! (1 in 3)!!!
