Chicago Cubs Pitcher Jon Lester Throws Entire Glove To First Base

Chicago Cub pitcher John Lester recorded an amazing out after throwing his entire glove to first baseman Anthony Rizzo.

Clint Barmes hit a ground ball to Lester, who scooped it up but couldn’t get it out of his glove. After realizing the ball was stuck, he decided to just throw his entire mitt.

Realizing that Jon Lester was throwing his own glove, Barmes dropped his mitt and caught it to record the out.

“That’s the smartest play in the history of baseball,” said the announcer.

Smart play? Sure, but it’s not the first time this has happened. Terry Mulholland of the San Francisco Giants famously threw his glove back in 1986, and Orlando Hernandez matched that feat 1999 with the New York Yankees.
