Cher Backs Off Miley Cyrus Diss
If she could turn back time, Cher would be a bit kinder in her critique of Miley Cyrus’ universally-panned twerkfest at last month’s MTV Video Music Awards (VMAs).
The pop icon, 67, was less than impressed with Miles’ controversial routine at the annual VMAs, where she gyrated provocatively against Robin Thicke’s — er — package wearing flesh-toned underwear. Cher believes the “Wrecking Ball” singer’s recent antics are synonymous with a generation where notoriety is more noteworthy than talent.
It isn’t the attire, or lack thereof, that left Cher clutching her pearls. After all, this is the same woman who donned assless chaps for her 1989 “Turn Back Time” video. The music legend found the whole display a bit, well, desperate.
Cher ranted to USA Today this week:
“It was so bad. I’m not old-fashioned. She could have come out naked, and if she’d just rocked the house, I would have said, ‘You go, girl.’ It just wasn’t done well. She can’t dance, her body looked like hell, the song wasn’t great, one cheek was hanging out. And, chick, don’t stick out your tongue if it’s coated.”
Cher: Never one to mince words. Interestingly enough, once her comments hit the blogosphere — with a thud — the star seemingly had a change of heart.
Cher tweeted out a mea culpa to Miley in a series of posts published to her feed on Wednesday.
“I’m a little ashamed. I didn’t keep my big Opinionated mouth shut….What I should have said (is) ‘I didn’t like (the performance) that much, but she’s Pushing The Envelope, being an ARTIST. She’s talented,& DIDNT COMMIT A FELONY. But somehow my ego had 2 get ITS 2 CENTS IN!”
She later added:
“Ps this is Not an apology 4 what I Thought, its a Reminder, that if I don’t practice my principles,I loose Them.”
