Chelsea Handler’s been called “too edgy” for network TV.
Try telling that to the brass at CBS.
See, when CBS president Les Moonves and Company heard that Chelsea Handler would be exiting stage left as soon as her contract with E! (or as she calls it, “a sad, sad place to live”) ends in December, the suits wasted no time courting the irreverent comedienne. The network wants Handler to know that her hold no punches punchlines have a home on their shores.
The New York Times Bestselling author is reportedly in negotiations for her own late night talk show on CBS, The Wrap said Saturday. Sources tell the trade paper that the network is expressing interest in having Chelsea’s take over Late Late Show host Craig Ferguson‘s 12:30 a.m. timeslot. Ferguson, of course, is the heir apparent to replace David Letterman, who announced last week that he’ll retire his post at the Late Show in 2015.
At any rate, CBS is really looking to swoop up Chelsea. Following the announcement that she was leaving the network that also carries shows like Keeping Up with the Kardashians and Fashion Police, CBS approached her to host a syndicated show.
Chelsea wasn’t interested. She is, however, entertaining the idea of hosting a weekly radio show with SiriusXM and having a taped version of the show streamed on Netflix.
