The worst kept secret in Hollywood? Well, at least for the past week.
On Wednesday morning, People magazine (on newsstands Friday) declared stripper-turned-screen star Channing Tatum 2012 Sexiest Man Alive. He snatches the gong from last year’s victor, Bradley Cooper.
The Alabama-born Tatum first hit the public eye with a lead role in the 2006 dance flick Step Up. He married his co-star in the film, actress Jenna Dewan-Tatum, three years later.
Despite shaking his studly stuff in last year’s stripper drama Magic Mike, Channing, 32, was initially a bit taken aback by this newest honor:
“My first thought was, ‘Y’all are messing with me.’ I told Jenna after we’d been in the bathtub washing our dogs because they’d gotten skunked. She was like, ‘What?’ Yeah, she calls me [the Sexiest Man Alive] now.”
“People know him to be fun and sexy, but they don’t know how emotionally deep and spiritually open he is. He is such an open-hearted person; what you see is what you get.”
Tatum — known for his work in films like G.I. Joe: The Rise of Cobra, Dear John and 21 Jump Street — is currently training to play an Olympic athlete in next year’s Foxcatcher.
“I like to be lean. If I get too bulky I can’t move well and I like to move. When I’m not training, I get really round and soft.”
So what do you think of the pick? Would Channing be your first choice?
