Hollywood newcomer Chadwick Boseman is becoming the go-to-guy for big budget biopics. The actor cut his teeth playing baseball legend Jackie Robinson in last year’s 42, now he’s set to portray another American icon; stepping into James Brown’s dancing shoes in the long-awaited silver screen re-telling of the soul singer’s life.
The Hardest-Working Man in Showbusiness lives on in Get On Up. The film — directed by The Help lensman Taylor Tate — follows the tumultuous life story of Brown, starting from his impoverished childhood in Jim Crow Georgia to his evolution into one of the most dynamic musical figures of the 20th century.
Boseman does the heavy lifting…and the sweating…and the splits in the lead role. He’ll be joined by a supporting cast that includes Viola Davis, Octavia Spencer, Nelsan Ellis, Lennie James, Tika Sumpter, Jill Scott and Dan Aykroyd.
