The close friendship between Chace Crawford (sitting) and his Gossip Girl co-star Ed Westwick has sparked rumors the twenty-somethings are gay.

Chace Crawford has spoken out about the persistent rumors that he and Gossip Girl co-star Ed Westwick are twinky lovebirds.

Chace, 23, and Ed, 21, share an apartment in New York’s Chelsea neighborhood. Wedged between Midtown Manhattan and the West Village, Chelsea boasts one of the largest populations of gay-frequented restaurants and bars in the Big Apple, and has earned a reputation as one of the nation’s most famous gay meccas.

“You know what? Ed and I laugh about it,” Chace said of the gay whispers in the August 3 edition of the UK’s The Independent.

“It’s kind of funny. But it’s like, you know, I guess some people assume there’s a seed of truth to it. People think where there’s smoke, there’s fire.”

“People think that, but they don’t realize that, er, it’s obviously, er, it’s just so amazing the way something can be… just a complete fabrication, yet it gets twisted…It’ll just go away in the end.”
