Academy Award-winning actress Catherine Zeta-Jones hopes to play “ugly duckling” Susan Boyle in a proposed film about the aspiring singer’s life.

Catherine is regularly voted one of the world’s most beautiful women and is married to Hollywood legend Michael Douglas. The dowdy 47-year-old Susan Boyle, on the other hand, became a YouTube sensation after footage of her singing “I Dreamed A Dream” from Les Miserables during an audition for Britain’s Got Talent became the most viewed YouTube clip of all time, earning more than 100million hits.

Dubbed the “hairy angel” by the British media because of her pre-makeover untamed hair and untamed eyebrows, Susan is a shy church volunteer from Scotland.

The Welsh-born Zeta-Jones, 39, has been inquiring about purchasing the film rights to the singer’s life story after Susan’s sensational appearance on Britain’s Got Talent three weeks ago.

A source on Britain’s Got Talent told the Daily Mail on Wednesday: “This is one of many requests we have had to play her [Miss Boyle], for movie deals and for stories of her life.”

The star of the box office smash Chicago is reportedly lobbying Oscar-winning film director James Cameron to direct the film.

“All these people are coming out and want to be associated with her. She is the biggest thing in the world.”

A spokesman for Susan declined to comment. Catherine’s publicist insists nothing has been planned just yet.

I feel a little cruel, attacking the Daily Mail when its defenses are so clearly weakened. Because even its own writers seem to be losing faith in its ‘write anything as long as it fills space’ credo, especially where celebrities are concerned.

The latest revelation is that Help-The-Aged volunteer and part-time actress Catherine Zeta-Jones is ‘desperate’ to play Susan Boyle in a biopic of her life. This, despite the fact that Susan’s story so far consists of 47 years of nothing, marching onto a stage and singing a song, having her eyebrows plucked, and sitting back as 100 million people watch a clip on YouTube. It’s not quite Lawrence of Arabia is it?

Unable to resist adding another ostrich egg to this already over-stuffed pudding of a story, the Mail continues by stating that “It is believed that… director James Cameron has expressed an interest in a similar project.” James Cameron, who has spent the last 14 years developing a 3D movie about 10-foot tall CGI aliens, is interested in the non-story of a Scottish spinster who likes Elaine Paige.

Surely, no-one with slightest trace of journalistic integrity would ever consider fabricating a dream of such cheese-before-bedtime proportions? The clues are in the words which pepper every paragraph of this laughable litany of lies. ‘Apparently’, ’said to be’ and ‘it is believed’ all make a worrying appearance here. All courtesy of a ’source’ at Britain’s Got Talent.

And that’s where it all starts going wrong for the Mail. They talk about Susan saying “she has been dubbed the hairy angel”, forgetting that they were the ones who coined this unappealing nickname. The final ignominy is that the only fact that appears in the article manages to negate the entire piece. “Miss Zeta-Jones’s publicist in the U.S. said there were currently no plans for her to play Miss Boyle.”

Still, if nothing else, the article gives us yet another opportunity to marvel at the skills of their in-house photo-shop department.

THINK YOU ARE ALL NUTS, CATHERINE IS A HOTTIE OF HUGE PROPORTIONS, AND HISPANIC TO BOOT, HOW WOULD SHE PLAY AN AGEING UNATTRACTIVE SCOT??? THAT WOULD TAKE SOME SERIOUS COMPUTER IMAGE DOWNGRADING TO FIX HER DOWN THAT FAR, WHY NOT HIRE ANOTHER UGLY SCOTTISH ACTRESS INSTEAD, SURE WOULD SAVE ALLOT OF MONEY, DONT DO IT CATHERINE!!!!!!!

Well, that would certainly be something to see! I thing Zeta-Jones would have to spend a LOT of time in the make up trailor to become visually believable. She is a good actress and I think if she wanted to tell the story she could. Is it interesting enough to sell? Don’t know. Boyle’s life sounded pretty ho hum before she was “dis-covered”. Who knows where Boyle will go from here? She has a wonderful voice but there is a long road to negotiate before she becomes successful artist/performer. I will be watching with much interest.

Catherine Zeta Jones is not a character actress. She plays herself in every role. It’s like George Clooney or Tom Cruise. They are celebrities, not real actors. Please know the difference. Jones is not vulnerable enough in life and on screen. I like Susan Boyle playing Susan Boyle now. Please clueless opportunists, do not go ruin Suan’s image with your greedy style. Susan Boyle is a humble woman.

Is humble is another word for unlucky, or needy?how can you say she is humble? do you know her? I think nothing of her other than that woman can sing very well, humility would not be seeking the spot light or even wanting the attention that she is getting, I truly believe the woman wants to make it big in the music biz and that aint humble.
She does’nt need to be defended by any of us, she will be alright if she gets tough, not by being humble, the world will chew her up and spit her out she doesnt get tough.

I don’t think Catherine looks Hispanic. She has dark hair and eyes but so do I. I’m a mix of Asian and European but everyone assumes I’m Hispanic. People shouldn’t make assumptions based on dark hair and a tan. Anyone can look like that, not just the Latinos or what have you.
I think I shouldn’t prejudge Catherine until I see her acting this particular charactor. She might be able to pull it off without sounding Just Like Herself. Ya never know. ;o)

Good Luck Susan Boyle….how about one of the
Royals to play your part…ie Princess Anne or better yet Camella, Princess of Wales

I keep seeing negative words about Ms. Boyle’s looks. The only thing she could use is a shaping of the brows. Her face looks pretty to me. As to being a performer, all she has to do is to make recordings if she wants.

Susan Boyle has been consistently denegrated as being an “ugly duckling”. So why choose a swan to play her part? I believe it may be a choice dictated by the fact that Hollywood does not know how to do “ordinary”, let alone unattractive and is under the impression that America is too shallow to see in an actress anything but flawless beauty. Catherine,as Susan, looks like an older cousin of herself. Has Hollywood no talent beyond the usual spectacular beauty? Susan Boyle is unusual, in talent and circumstances . So why not stretch and see if there is someone beyond the typical to play her part? I think that the entertainment media is buffering itself from the shock that such a role could be carried off by anyone but a swan. Isn’t that in itself, what made Susan a senation to begin with? Maybe Hollywood could search: search for an uncommon actress and search itself for the shallowness evidenced by suggesting Zeta-Jones as a credible option.

Zeta jones is NOT qualified to play Susan. Jones is a cold person, lacking vulnerability on screen. Let the real SusanBoyle play Susan Boyle. Please greedy Zeta Jones, keep doing Clooney’s movies. No talent is necessary for those.
