Vin Diesel will star in a third movie in the David Twohy-helmed Riddick franchise, Variety said Friday.

“Vin Diesel is going back to the future to topline and produce a third chapter in the “Chronicles of Riddick” franchise….Plot details are being kept under wraps. But insiders say the third outing will hew closer in tone to the cult hit Pitch Black…” the trade mag writes.

Despite being panned by critics, Lionsgate’s The Chronicles of Riddick grossed over $100 million at the international box office and spawned a popular video game. Diesel recently signed on to reprise his role in the forthcoming fifth Fast & Furious film.

Vin Diesel has laughed reports suggesting he’s pulled out of his XXX comeback, insisting he’s playing the lead in the upcoming third XXX film, The Return of Xander Cage. Rapper/actor Ice Cube assumed the lead role in XXX 2: State of The Union.

Over the weekend, internet gossip claimed Diesel had pulled out from the flick, however, the star’s rep dubbed the claims as untrue, telling MTV News: “I made a few calls on this and I can tell you that it is completely not true.”

Fast & Furious opens in theaters Friday.

Vin Diesel is reportedly in talks with producers to portray the robot assassin originally portrayed by Arnold Schwarzeneggerin the new Terminator movie. Vin has already signed up to return to his role of racer Dominic Torretto in The Fast and the Furious 4 later this year. Terminator 4 is set for release in 2009.
