Every Sunday, CBS’ long-running newsmagazine 60 Minutes wraps up its weekly broadcast with a side-splitting rant from its eternally cranky pundit, Andy Rooney. But it seems the grumpy grandpa with an opinion on everything from stamp-collecting to the price of toilet tissue is losing touch with mainstream music and some of today’s most popular musical acts. As a matter of fact, Andy wouldn’t know Lady Gaga or Usher from Captain Kangaroo.

Usher: “Talent Shows Are Ruining The Music Industry”
Just weeks after appearing as a mentor on the current ninth season of American Idol, Usher has blasted TV talent shows for contributing to the demise of the recording industry.
(This coming for a man who’s latest single is entitled “Lil Freak.”)
The multiplatinum-selling crooner is frustrated with hit shows like Idol and The X Factor, which he credits with making celebrities out of talented singers only to cast them aside months later.
PETA Asks Usher Not To Replace Stolen Fur Coats
The good folks of People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA) have learned nothing from the verbal ass-razzing they took at the hands of “Milkshake” hitmaker Kelis earlier this week. The animal rights group has another R&B crooner is their sights. PETA has penned an open letter to “Yeah!” star Usher, imploring the singer not to replace any of the fur coats that were stolen from his vehicle during a Christmas shopping trip near his home in Atlanta.

Award-winning vocalists Usher, Justin Timberlake, and Leona Lewis are in discussions to perform at a Michael Jackson tribute concert taking place at London’s O2 arena later this summer.
“Executives want to stage a touching tribute to Michael and think The O2 would be a fitting location,” a source spilled The Sun.
“Huge stars such as Leona, Usher and Justin have expressed enthusiasm about the project. It will be a celebration of Jacko’s life through his music.”
The insider added, “The producers want to avoid a sombre memorial tone and intend the evening to be a joyful event focusing on Jacko’s extraordinary legacy.”
No word on when the proposed tribute might take place.
