The Oscar-winner racked his brain when asked for his favorite tune of 2009 backstage at the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame’s 25th anniversary concert on Thursday, but Tom finally settled on Beyonce’s No. 1 smash, “Single Ladies (Put a Ring On It.),” MTV News reports.

“Dada-dada ring on it! Dada-dada ring on it!” Tom sang, as he struggled to remember the lyrics to Beyonce’s award-winning track. “That is a damn fine song, the Beyonce song … because it’s infectious,” the 53-year-old actor said.

“Kanye West has nothing to do with my embracing of that song,” he joked.

Tom says he likes the song because that’s what he told his wife, actress Rita Wilson, when they first met: “I’m gon’ put a ring on that finger. I’m gon’ take that thing home.”

Tom Hanks nearly died during the making of his hit 2000 film Cast Away.

“[Cast Away] put me in the hospital. I was there for three days with something that, believe it or not, almost killed me. I got an infection form a cut and it was eating its way through my leg. I didn’t know it, I just thought I had a sore,” Tom said during an interview with the BBC’s Radio 1 this week.

“I went to the doctor who took one look and said, ‘I have to put you in the hospital because we have to get this infection out of you before it poisons your blood and you die’. We had to shut down for three weeks while my skin reformed,” he added.

In Cast Away, Tom played a FedEx delivery man who got stranded on an uninhabited island after his plane crashed flying over the South Pacific. Tom’s highly anticipated thriller Angels & Demons soared to No. 1 at the box office this weekend, taking in an estimated $48 million in ticket sales.

Oscar-winning actress Julia Roberts saluted old pal Tom Hanks with a few F-Bombs at a gala on Monday night.

“It’s late, and I’m paying my babysitter overtime, and I have to pee,” Julia said at Monday’s 36th annual Film Society of Lincoln Center Gala Tribute, where Tom Hanks — a two-time Academy Award winner for his work in Philadelphia and Forest Gump –was presented the first ever Chaplin Award.
