According to Mary Harron, who directed the 2000 film, Chrisitan came up with the idea of using Tom as inspiration for playing serial killer Patrick Bateman after seeing him appear on the Late Show with David Letterman.

“We talked about how Martian-like Patrick Bateman was, how he was looking at the world like somebody from another planet, watching what people did and trying to work out the right way to behave,” Harron told The Courier Mail this week.

“And then one day he called me and he had been watching Tom Cruise on David Letterman, and he just had this very intense friendliness with nothing behind the eyes, and he was really taken with this energy,” she said.

“We thought Tom was the biggest bore on the face of the Earth,” he tells A.V. Club. “He was tense and made constant, constant unrelated homophobic comments, like, ‘You want some ice cream, in case there are no gay people there?’ I mean, his lingo was larded with the most… There was no basis for it. It was like, ‘It’s a nice day, I’m glad there are no gay people standing here.’ Very, very strange.”

Although he doesn’t actually say the Father of Scientology is gay, he does point out: “If someone’s 20 years old and every third line out of their mouth is anti-something specific, then draw your own conclusion.”

He adds, “Years and years later when people started to torment him with that, I used to think ‘God, that’s really fitting,’ because he tormented a lot of people as a 20-year-old.’ He made such a big deal about it.”

Cruise’s publicist, Cheryl Maisel, has rebuffed Pinchot’s accusations. “Obviously this is so far removed from who Tom Cruise is as a person, this must have been said in jest,” she said in a statement.

“I try to excel in all areas and I’ve never been asked for a refund,” Tom laughed when Leno asked if he was better at flying or sex.

While speaking to reporters outside the Los Angeles Superior Court, Claire claimed she married Michael for “business purposes.” in Princeton, New Jersey on Oct. 21, 1983 and insists she is the biological mother of all three of the singer’s children.

During the middle of the estate hearing, Billie Jean stood up and said, “I’m Blanket’s mother.”

“I would like all proceedings in the estate to be halted until a forensic scientist looks at signatures on the will because I believe they were forged,” she continued.

The judge told Billie Jean that Blanket was currently in a guardianship and that the court would address her claims on September 10.

Katie has a three-year-old daughter, Suri, with the pint-sized Hollywood superstar, but the actress has increasingly frustrated with the couple’s hectic schedule and nearly non-existant intimacy.

“Katie has become noticeably more miserable in the last few months. She finds it incredibly taxing to lead a life that revolves around Tom but that doesn’t include enough intimate time with him to be genuinely fulfilling,” a spy told Closer Magazine this week.

“She doesn’t just want to go to red-carpet events with him. She always feels like she’s competing for Tom’s attention.”

Friends are reportedly worried about the 30-year-old star, the source added.

“Everyone is worried that she’s close to breaking point. Katie spends most days alone looking after Suri. She’s a devoted mother, but it’s a lonely job. She and Tom have such separate lives.”

Tom Cruise will reportedly team up with pal John Travolta in a remake of the 1960s western Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid.

The surrogate father of Scientology plans to produce the remake through his United Artists Studio and is currently in talks with scriptwriters, a new report claims.

A source tells The Daily Mirror: “Butch and Sundance is a labor of love for Tom. He was eight years old when he saw the original and it made an impression that has stayed with him all his life. He can’t wait to get to work.”

Tom hopes to revive the role of Sundance–played by Robert Redford in the original film–while 55-year-old John is expected to play Cassidy.

The 46-year-old star even got the blessing of Paul Newman – who originally played the role of Cassidy in the film about a pair of lovable bank robbers–before he died of lung cancer last September, tattles tell the tab.

“It has been a pet project of his that has been on the back-burner for years. But now he’s ready to go, and will most likely happily eschew the enormous salary that he normally commands.”

Tom says it was not until he discovered the teachings of the controversial faith that the condition began to dissipate.

“I asked myself if I was normal or an idiot. I would try to concentrate but I felt anxiety, frustration, boredom. When I graduated from high school in 1980 I was functionally illiterate,” he told XL Semanal, the weekly magazine supplement of daily Spanish newspaper ABC .
