After a special intro from acting vet Samuel L. Jackson, music legend Whitney Houston performed her inspirational comeback track, “I Didn’t Know My Own Strength,” featured on the songbird’s seventh album I Look To You, during the 2009 American Music Awards on Sunday night.
Whitney also snagged the coveted International Artist of the Year prize at tonight’s ceremony.

New York’s own Jay-Z and Alicia Keys got World Series champ Alex Rodriguez — better known these days as Kate Hudson’s manbag — to introduce their live performance of the Big Apple’s new anthem, “Empire State of Mind,” at the 2009 AMAs Sunday.

Lifelong hip-shaker Shakira livened up this year’s AMA with an amazing show of choreography during a performance of “Give It Up To Me.”
Led by former American Idol star Chris Daughtry, popular rock band Daughtry smashed the stage with a performance of their single “Life After You” at the 2009 AMAs, airing live on ABC from the Nokia Theater in Hollywood Sunday night.
