You can’t keep a cowgirl down! Despite being humiliated by an obnoxious Kanye West early in the show, Taylor Swift championed on and hit the New York City Subway to perform her smash hit single “You Belong With Me,” live at the 2009 MTV Video Music Awards in the Big Apple on Sunday.
Taylor Swift praised Beyonce Knowles-Carter for her graciousness during a post-ceremony press conference for Sunday night’s 2009 MTV Video Music Awards. Taylor was publicly humiliated while accepting her first-ever moonman, after Kanye West made history by storming the stage during Taylor’s speech and telling the crowd that he believed Beyonce was the true winner in the Best Female Video category.
“Taylor, I’m really happy for you, I’m gonna let you finish, but Beyonce had one of the best videos of all time,” he shouted.
Kanye’s characteristically childish outburst was greeted by boos and jeers from the Radio City Music Hall crowd, as a mortified Beyonce looked on from the audience. Taylor stood speechless as she held back tears as fans began chanting her name in support. Kanye was promptly asked to leave the ceremony by network execs.
But Beyonce, always a class act, saved the day by inviting Taylor on-stage to finish delivering her speech while accepting the Video of the Year trophy for her hit 2008 single “Single Ladies (Put A Ring On It).” Read the rest of this entry »
Kanye West has offered an apology for the tacky and classless tomfoolery he pulled at Sunday night’s 2009 Video Music Awards.
Taylor Swift picked up her first Moonman for Best Female Video for “You Belong To Me” at Sunday night’s ceremony but didn’t have the chance to finish her acceptance speech, thanks to the Grammy-winning egomaniac, who took the stage to interrupt her and praise pal Beyonce, who was nominated for “Single Ladies (Put A Ring On It).”
Beyonce won the Video of the Year moonman for her 2008 video “Single Ladies (Put A Ring On It)” at Sunday night’s 2009 MTV Video Music Awards in New York; but instead of offering a long-winded acceptance speech, the R&B hitmaker gave the microphone to country crooner Taylor Swift, who accepted her award for Best Female Video.
Earlier in the night, Taylor was callouslly ambushed by Kanye West — who declared it was Beyonce who deserved the award — in the middle of her thank you notes.
“[I remember] I was up for my first MTV award with Destiny’s Child and it was one of the most exciting moments of my life,” Beyonce said. “So I’d like for Taylor to come out and have her moment.”
Taylor then took the stage in a red dress that matched Beyonce’s, thanking the fans “on Twitter and MySpace and everyone who came out to my shows this summer,” as well as those who had worked on her video for “You Belong With Me.”
In case you needed further confirmation that Kanye West is a total asshat, feast your eyes on Exhibit A: The outspoken rapper interrupted Taylor Swift’s acceptance speech for Best Female Video at MTV’s 2009 Video Music Awards to declare that Beyonce’s popular “Single Ladies” music video should have received the award instead.
A speechless Taylor, visibly shaken, left the stage following the outburst.

Country cutie Taylor Swift puts a theatrical spin on West Side Story’s “Tonight” — from the back of a New York City taxicab — in a new commerical promo for the MTV Video Music Awards, airing live from Radio City Music Hall @ 9PM on Sept. 12.
Taylor Swift “rock n’ rolled all night” in full KISS attire over the weekend.
The country singer was set to perform tour mate Keith Urban’s “Kiss a Girl” during a stop in Kansas City, Missouri on Saturday night. Instead of just belting out verses, Taylor decided Keith and the rest of the audience would get a kick out of having her take the song’s lyrics to heart by showing up in complete KISS wig and makeup.
“Last night on tour with Keith Urban. Pranking is a must. How about rushing his stage during ‘Kiss a Girl’ dressed like this? It went down,”Taylor Tweeted.
