While there’s been a mostly positive reaction to Tom Petty’s classic Super Bowl performance, many of the people watching weren’t old enough to know Petty from his heyday. And seeing that today’s music market is saturated with young stars, it probably seemed weird to see an old guy like Tom Petty performing.

You’re probably wondering how old Tom Petty is. Well, it turns out that he’s 57 years old and was born on October 20th, 1950. Was he the oldest Super Bowl performer ever? No. Though he probably looks it;-)

Musical legend Prince has stirred up a small controversy over his wet and windy halftime performance at Sunday’s Super Bowl XLI.

The critically-acclaimed performance featured a guitar solo of the 1984 hit “Purple Rain.” During the number, Prince’s shadow was projected onto a large, flowing beige sheet. The silhouette cast by his figure and his guitar, which is in the shape of P’s signature symbol, allegedly had phallic connotations.

New York Daily News television critic David Bianculli called it “a rude-looking shadow show” that “looked embarrassingly rude, crude and unfortunately placed.”

Big-wigs over at CBS disagree. The network claims to have received “very few” complaints about Prince’s shadowy performance. And the NFL has reportedly received no complaints.

“We respect other opinions, but it takes quite a leap of the imagination to make a controversy of his performance,” said Greg Aiello, an NFL spokesman. “It’s a guitar.”

On the eve of Super Bowl Sunday, a dozen parties beckoned to the celebrity masses who have flooded the Miami area in anticipation of this afternoon’s big football season finale. Scalpers sold Super Bowl Party tickets for upwards of $1,000 a pop. But it was Hugh Hef and his Playmates who hosted one of the biggest bashes with the Playboy Super Bowl Party.

Held at the American Airlines Arena, the complex was converted into the Playboy mansion, and served a party that started at 10:30 pm and ended just after 5am.

Celebs in attendance included Alyssa Milano, Billy Bob Thornton, Bill Murray, Billy Joel, Ludacris, Nicky Hilton, David Caruso, David Spade, Johnny Knoxville, Taye Diggs, Jeremy Piven, Gary Sinise and Matt Leinart.

While the Maxim Superbowl Party, held on Friday night, attracted acts like Jennifer Lopez and hubby Marc Anthony, Brooke Hogan, Joey Fatone….oh….and Kevin Federline.
