Steve-O gracefully bowed out of performing on Dancing with the Stars after suffering a second back injury during dress rehearsal on Monday night.

The former Jackass star landed on his back while rehearsing their number only two hours before the taping of the live show, causing him to suffer extreme swelling and seek medical treatment at a hospital.

Despite Steve-O’s absence from the show, he was still judged on his salsa routine, which was recorded with professional partner Lacey Schwimmer during dress rehearsal. The judges said their dance lacked excitement.

“I feel terribly sorry for Steve because as much as you try in the dress rehearsal, you don’t have the adrenaline you have when you come out in a live show,” judge Len Goodman said as the couple received 14 out of 30 points. “I wasn’t enjoying it.”

He may be known for his role as a thrill-seeking daredevil on the MTV series Jackass, this week Steve-O is struggling to stay on his feet after being diagnosed with a severe back injury that could send him hobbling to the sidelines on next Monday’s show.

The former MTV star has released a statement outlining his condition:

“A physical therapist has told me that nerves are being pinched in my back and it is in spasms because of inflammation related to torn muscles. I’m doing everything I can to let it heal; icing it, taking Advil, drinking water, visiting a chiropractor, and continuing to be worked on by the physical therapist. I’m still rehearsing every day, but walking through my salsa routine, rather than practicing the physical stunts and tricks that are incorporated into it. It is going to be a risky routine that I hope to pull off.”

Last week, Access Hollywood correspondent Nancy O’Dell and singer Jewel were forced to withdraw from DWTS after suffering serious injuries while rehearsing for the show.

On Thursday, contestants Steve Worzinak and Gilles Marini revealed that they too will dance on Tuesday’s show despite struggling with painful injuries this week.

Now that he’s clean and sober, Jackass prankster Steve-O is asking his fans to help him redesign his body art.

The Dancing With The Stars hoffer, who admits he’s tired of some of his trademark ink, has launched an online contest for fans to exercise their creativity.

“I’ve decided that it is time to alter some tattoos, starting with the pot leaf on my wrist and the dribbling dick on my arm,” the 34-year-old blogged last week.

“I want to make sure that whatever I change them into is really rad, though, so I am officially asking for your help. Please get to doodling and submit to us your tattoo designs to cover up these fucking things.”

The top three designs will be announced on March 23.

Steve-O’s back in the Looney Bin. Steve was first hospitalized at a mental health unit of L.A.’s Cedars-Sinai Medical Center in March. The stunt enthusiast has once entered a mental institution to battle depression and cocaine dependency.

“I’ve now been clean for 115 days, and I’m, again, in a mental institution,” the thirty-three year old Jackass star wrote on his Myspace blog Sunday. “I did so much cocaine, ketamine, pcp, nitrous oxide, and all sorts of other drugs, that, quite simply, my brain is fuckd up.”

“I frequently suffer from horrible mood swings and severe depression….Medication that is prescribed to me doesn’t do the trick every day. I’m back in the looney bin trying to get that shit right.”

“The bottom line is that doing drugs fuicked my ass up, and I’m going to be paying for it for a long time, probably for the rest of my life,” he says. “Everyone’s going to make their own decisions in life, but nobody needs to make the same mistakes I made.”

Jackass star Steve-O was snapped snorting cocaine from a woman’s leg just days before he was admitted the Cedars-Sinai Medical Center psych ward. Steve, who has been charged with felony cocaine possession by the LAPD, is featured in photographs printed in the National Enquirer inhaling a white powder off a woman’s thigh during a March 9th party in Los Angeles.

“He was so wasted. He was hitting on random girls and asking to snort off their breasts,” the Enquirer reports. “He was such a mess he didn’t know what he was doing. Some girls felt so sorry for him they went out of their way to wipe the coke off his nose.”

Steve-O is currently on a fourteen day hold at Cedars-Sinai.

Jackass star Steve-O is blogging from the psych ward. The thirty-three year old has been placed on a fourteen day psychiatric hold at Los Angeles’ Cedars-Sinai Medical Center after threatening suicide over the weekend. The comedian is also facing felony charges for possession of cocaine.

Steve-O blames his condition on the lasting side effects of years of abusing drugs, writing on his Myspace blog:

“‘Before the day when Johnny Knoxville, Jeff Tremaine, Big Regg, Swizz, Rick Kosick, Dimitry Elyaschevich, Cordell Mansfield, and Trip Taylor came to my home and, physically, forced me into the hospital, I had thought of ‘bipolar’ as a ‘good’ thing. I rationally deduced that, with our time in this life being so limited, it was productive to stick to nothing but extremely high ‘highs’, and extremely low ‘lows.’ “I figured that, since I am an extraordinarily ‘tough’ individual, I could handle it. “After four days in a psychiatric ward… I am no longer ‘5150-status’ (which was the three-day ‘hold’ on me, resulting from suicidal behaviour). I am now ‘5250-status’ (which means that the ‘hold’ has been extended to 14 days, for the exact same reasons). “I’m not getting out of this ‘insane asylum’ any time in the immediate future, so, I’m going to learn as much from the experience as possible. So far, I’ve figured out that I did a great deal of damage to my brain by abusing drugs and, now that they’ve all worn off, I’m facing the consequences.”

Steve-O is currenly being held at L.A.’s Cedars-Sinai Medical Center after the Jackass star spent the weekend e-mailing suicide notes to several friends.

According to Star Magazine spies, the MTV thrill-seeker was brought into the emergency room around 2pm on Sunday afternoon and was later placed on a seventy-two hour hold in the psych ward. The hold has since been extended to two weeks, Star claims.

“Steve started flipping out. He told doctors he wanted to hurt himself badly. He wanted to break every bone in his body one by one.”

Steve is reportedly suffering from untreated bipolar disorder. Sound familiar? (Cough) Britney Spears (Cough)

“Steve is stabilized on meds at this point. He was also treated for burns on his skin as if he had been putting cigarettes out on his own body.”

“Right now he’s in his extreme mania,” a family member tells the tablod. “His concerned friends and family are hoping he’ll seek treatment. He doesn’t need jail, he needs therapy. We’re just really hoping that this will be the wake-up call that gets him back to himself.”

It’s a good thing Lindsay Lohan has implemented a “strict $1,000 spending budget;” OK! Magazine claims the supposed millionaire actually had to borrow $10,000 from friend Steve-O recently. A claim Lohan’s rep vehemently denies.

“She regrets all the cash she threw around the last couple years,” a spy close to the star reveals to the mag. “She needs everything to fall into place and get her back on track, and fast.”
