This just in: Saturday Night Live producer Lorne Michaels has confirmed to reporters that Alec Baldwin will host SNL’s 37th season premiere, airing Sept. 24. The appearance, Baldwin’s 16th, will set a record. The 30 Rock actor is currently tied with fellow former Oscar host Steve Martin as the second person to host the sketch comedy classic 15 times. Alec last tickled funnybones on the SNL Season 35 Finale in May 2010.
The second episode of the season will be hosted by Bridesmaids star and Mike & Molly Emmy nominee Melissa McCarthy.
Last weekend’s 36th season finale of Saturday Night Live brought in big ratings for series producer Lorne Michaels and The Peacock Network — thanks to seasoned guest host Justin Timberlake and musical guest Lady Gaga.
They’re back! This weekend’s Saturday Night Live finale featured Creative Arts Emmy winners Justin Timberlake and Andy Samberg — clad in their Color Me Badd-inspired suits — teaming up for a side-splitting collaboration with musical guest Lady Gaga as Timberlake came aboard to host the final episode of SNL of the show’s 36th season. Fans of Mother Monster and the former boy bander got a taste of the pair’s famous vocals together in the “What’s That Name?” skit and “Threeway,” a digital short, starring JT, his “Motherlover” partner Samberg, Gaga, and a whole slew of ’90s sex ballads.
R.I.P to SNL’s Penelope & Gilly! Funnygal Kristen Wiig is putting two of her most famous alter egos on a shelf. During a new chat with TIME Magazine, the Saturday Night Live and Bridesmaids has retired two of her beloved characters, Penelope (the one-upper) and Gilly (the mischievous school girl). The gals have been a part of Wiig’s act since she joined SNL as a series regular in 2005.
“So, I created these characters, so I can end them. In fact, stopped doing them before I even started,” Kristen says.
