You thought the Shrek series was done? Think Again. The giant green ogre’s doe-eyed companion Puss in Boots has landed a starring role in his very own movie, a spinoff of Shrek Ever After — which closed out the franchise with a blockbuster last year.

Bosses at DreamWorks Studios — a division of Paramount — are none too pleased with the latest adventure of Shrek and his friends. Celebrity photog Ellen von Unwerth snapped Fiona, Donkey, Puss in Boots and the rest of the inhabitants of Far Far Away on location at The Standard New York for the upcoming summer issue of VMAN Magazine.

USA Today has our first look at DreamWorks’ hotly-anticipated Shrek Forever After, the final film in the Shrek series that will hit theaters and IMAX in 3D on May 21.
The plot finds a depressed Shrek wondering what life in Far Far Away would be like if he were never born, the studio explains. The premise is the Brothers Grimm meets It’s a Wonderful Life: After rescuing a princess, getting hitched and fathering triplets, Shrek is feeling over-domesticated. “He has lost his roar,” says director Mike Mitchell (Sky High, Deuce Bigelow: Male Gigolo). “It used to send villagers running away in terror. Now they run to him and ask him to sign their pitchforks and torches.”
The debut theatrical trailer for Shrek Forever After 3D will premiere with showings of Avatar beginning Dec. 18.
Time to dim the lights on this ogre. After a nearly year-long run, Broadway’s Shrek The Musical will close on January 3.

On Wednesday, DreamWorks Theatricals producer Bill Damaschke announed that Shrek The Musical will close early next year after a 441-performance run. A national tour kicks off at The Cadillac Palace Theatre in Chicago in July. The show opened last December to mixed reviews.
Shrek, based on Dreamworks’ smash animated film franchise and the characters in William Steig’s book, has seen its weekly grosses dwindle since the end of summer, according to reports.


Shrek and his animated sidekick Donkey came to the rescue of an injured Bret Michaels after the Poison rocker was hit over head with a piece of descending set equipment at the 2009 Tony Awards on Sunday. Read the rest of this entry »
