Spanish Town Herreruela Produces Shakira “Waka Waka” Mini-Movie

How’s this for awesome? Residents of a tiny town in rural Spain have put together a mini-movie inspired by Colombian pop star Shakira and the nation’s first World Cup championship.

The residents of Herreruela, a small town with a population of just 396, have choreographed a mini-movie tribute to the soccer champions to the rhythms of Shakira’s 2010 World Cup anthem, “Waka Waka (This Time For Africa).” The idea was to mix rural ambiance with surreal situations while supporting the championship Spanish national team. More than half the town’s people participated in the video.

Did you catch this weekend’s World Cup finale? Pop star Shakira performed “Waka Waka (This Time for Africa)” with South African band Freshlyground during the FIFA World Cup South Closing Ceremony at Soccer City Stadium in Soweto, suburban Johannesburg, on Sunday.

Spain snatched its first World Cup trophy in a victory over the Netherlands during the tournament’s final matchup.

Shakira Will Headline 2010 World Cup Closing Ceremony

Hip-shaking Colombian superstar Shakira will perform the official tournament anthem — “Waka Waka (This Time for Africa)” — at the 2010 FIFA World Cup Closing Ceremony this Sunday, July 12. The “Hips Don’t Lie” hitmaker also performed the song during a World Cup concert in Soweto on June 10.

Check out our sneak preview of the Roberto Cavalli design Shakira has selected to serenade sports aficionados for this weekend’s event.

The closing ceremony is scheduled to start at 6:30 PM local time, two hours before the final match kicks off.
