Between insulting then-President Bush and poking fun at The Jonas Brothers’ card-carrying virgin status, Russell Brand did such a great job stirring up controversy at last year’s MTV Video Music Awards, the network is inviting him back to do it all again.
“We are thrilled that despite numerous death threats from Jonas Brothers fans, Russell Brand has accepted our offer to put his life on the line and host the VMAs again this year,” Stephen Friedman, General Manager of MTV, said this morning.
The brash Brit will host the 2009 MTV VMAs, live from New York City, on Sunday, Sept. 13 @ 9PM ET/tape-delayed PT.

Russell Brand is dating Hugh Hefner’s former flame. The flirty friendship between he British comic star and one-time Girl Next Door Holly Madison — who split from the 83-year-old Playboy founder last year — has reportedly taken a step to the next level after Russell was spotted making late-night visits to Holly’s Hollywood home earlier this week.
“Russell has really hit it off with Holly. She’s a big star in the US, which he finds really attractive. Russ has been making late night visits to her home in the Hollywood Hills. He’s been there three times in the past week and neighbours have heard them ‘enjoying themselves’ loudly.”
We don’t know if we would describe Holly Madison as a “big star.”

Universal Pictures is reviving the 1991 cult comedy Drop Dead Fred, with British comedian Russell Brand taking over the lead role, The Hollywood Reporter has learned.
The original film starred brunette beauty Phoebe Cates as a wallflower who loses her job and husband during a lunch hour. After being forced to move back in with her mother, she’s reunited with her childhood imaginary friend, Drop Dead Fred (Rik Mayall), who manages to turn her already chaotic life upside down.
“In spite of appearances, I’m a heterosexual male. Because I’m so well dressed, people think, “’He must be gay. Look at his haircut, he must be gay. Russell Brand has been approached to appear in the fourth Pirates Of The Caribbean movie.
The controversial British comic is up for the role of Jonathan, the younger brother of Johnny Depp’s popular Captain Jack Sparrow, as part of a $ 10 million deal with Disney, according to Britain’s The Sun.
“There couldn’t be a role more perfectly suited,” a Hollywood source spills to reporters with the newspaper.
“There’s a lot of Jack Sparrow in his mannerisms and behavior. Depp’s accent isn’t a million miles away from Russell’s either. Russell joining the Sparrows alongside Johnny and Keith Richards as their dad will complete the ultimate on-screen pirate family.”
