LOGO Honors Rue McClanahan With “Sordid Lives” Marathon June 6

The LOGO Network will honor the career of late Golden Girl Rue McClanahan with a 12-episode marathon air of her final series — Sordid Lives: The Series — this Sunday, June 6 from 8 PM to 2 AM (7 PM to 1 AM Central). McClanahan, who passed away of a stroke early Thursday at the age of 76, played the role of family matriarch Peggy Ingram on the show.

If you’ve have never caught an episode of the now-defunct comedy, Sordid Lives: The Series — inspired by the 1996 play and 2000 film of the same name — starred McClanahan, Beth Grant, Olivia Newton-John, and Caroline Rhea as a dysfunctional, but humorous family, from Winters, Texas.

Betty White Remembers Rue McClanahan

Rue McClanahan, Bea Arthur, Estelle Getty, and Betty White made up the hilarious cast of the hit ’80s sitcom The Golden Girls.

Early Thursday, Rue — the classy star who played the Blanche, the Slut-You’ll-Grow-To-Love — passed away of a massive stroke. She was 76 – a fact her alter-ego would never dream of divulging! Now Betty — the last surviving member of the quartet — remembers her friend.

“Rue was a close and dear friend. I treasured our relationship. It hurts more than I even thought it would, if that’s even possible,” the senior who single-handedly made old “in” again said in a statement Thursday.

Rue McClanahan, “The Golden Girls’” Blanche, Dies

Oh no — Not Blanche!! Heaven has taken another of our beloved Golden Girls!

Rue McClanahan — who shared her acting talents with fans of TV hits like Maude and Mama’s Family before taking on the role of aging Southern vamp Blanche Devereaux on NBC’s The Golden Girls from 1985 to 1992 — has died.

She was 76.

Rue McClanahan “SNL” Hosting Campaign Hits Web

Betty White isn’t the only “Golden Girl” with a legion of fans fighting to bring her to late-night! Rue McClanahan played aging vamp Blanche alongside Betty on the ’80s comedy The Golden Girls , and fans still haven’t forgotten how the star’s portrayal of the sex-charged Southern belle split sides and left audiences in stitches. A few hundred of Rue’s fan have taken to Facebook with a campaign to get the 75-year-old her first hosting gig on NBC’s Saturday Night Live.

“Betty White shouldn’t be the only one who gets to host SNL. What about the original cougar Rue McClanahan? Let’s hear it for our girl! Betty White shouldn’t have all the fun,” reads The Rue McClanahan to Host SNL (please)! page.
