“I will not be able to remain happy and sedate being whatever – being an increasingly hirable actor type. I think the best thing I could do for my soul and my own development would be to direct,” Robert told Esquire Magazine in its December issue. “I’m not sure exactly how things are going to shake out, because it’s really easy for me to do landgrabs with my day job, and I still have a lot of passion for it,” he continued. “But if I had to guess, that would probably be my next move.”

Robert Downey Jr. has earned the Hugh Hefner Seal of Approval to portray the men’s magazine boss in a proposed biopic based on his life.

Over the past year, the Iron Man has regularly expressed an interest in taking on the lead role in a retelling of the aging Lothario’s life story — but he has now been given the green light from Hef himself.

On Friday, Paramount Pictures released the first still image of actor Robert Downey Jr. in character as billionaire industrialist Tony Stark in the upcoming superhero blockbuster, Iron Man 2.

The sequel to the 2008 box office smash is currently in production and slated for a May 2010 release.

Speaking at Newsweek’s annual Oscar Roundtable event in Hollywood on Thursday, the 2009 Academy Award nominee confessed that he is fascinated by what people write about him online.

“I love all that shit personally. Sorry. I love just it. Because it’s a hoot. Some people overstate their support, like they know you,” RDJ said. “Other people are busy doing something else and just want to go on this chat site and say some despicable character assassination, which I honestly think they kind of nailed it. I do have that shortcoming. It’s really fun.”

The actor, who dated Sex And The City’s Sarah Jessica Parker for seven years, admits that during one period of his life he spent several hours a day choking his chicken.

With a starring role in the summer blockbuster Iron Man already under his belt, R.D.J is gearing up for an even bigger career surge with contracts to appear in a second of installment of the action thriller as well as a Sherlock Holmes comedy still to come.

“I’m between two phases right now, pre-Iron Man and post-Iron Man, and the transition can be tricky,” he says, shifting and smoking. “It used to be, I’d drive onto a studio lot, and the guard was like, ‘Less Than Zero dude, I loved Chaplin!’ Now it’s, ‘Iron Man!’”

Robert Downey Jr. has postponed plans to release a self-written memoir later this year.

The autobiography would have chronicled the Iron Man star’s truimph through a crippling battle with drugs and a succession of stints behind bars, the Associated Press reports.

Robert has returned his advance to HarperCollins.

No reason has been given for the delay.

Paramount Pictures and Marvel Comics are so pleased with Robert Downey Jr.’s blockbuster performance in this summer’s supehero action hit Iron Man they’ve presented the actor with a $200,000 Bentley as a token of thanks.

“Robert was shocked when they gave it to him,” one inside source spills to Star. “But he was so grateful and he is so happy he’s made a comeback.”

Iron Man has grossed more than $600 million worldwide since premiering in May.

Robert Downey Jr. has been cast as Sherlock Holmes in Guy Ritchie’s new film about the Baker Street detective.

The Iron Man star will begin filming for his new gig this October.

As opposed to another upcoming Sherlock Holmes film starring Sacha Baron Cohen and Will Ferrell, Ritchie’s Holmes tale will take inspiration directly from Sir Arthur Conan Doyle’s classic novels.
