The 23rd installment of The Real World has descended on DC — and Washingtonians are having a cow.

The cast of eight strangers moved into the semi-mansion at 20th & S Streets, NW — valued at $5.69 million –just last Thursday. It will be their home for the next five months, nonetheless hundreds of residents in the posh Dupont Circle nabe have already logged complaints about being harassed by cameramen and security guards, bright lights blaring at all hours of the night, and the appearance of chartered buses on nearby residential streets.

An entire blog, The Anti-Real World DC, was set up earlier this year to chronicle just how displeased the city is with MTV’s pioneering reality series hitting the Nation’s Capitol.

“People post where they are, people following them around it’s just going to bring a bunch of teenagers into the neighborhood and we really don’t want that,” Dupont Circle resident Bryann Baker told News Channel 8 on Monday.

Local reporter Lindsey Mastis of WUSA-TV 9 was interrupted by an cameraman who shoved his camera into her face as she interviewd people on the street on the day that castmembers moved in. (Check Out That Video Above.)

Local hangout spots, including The Black Cat near the city’s lively U Street Corridor, have made it clear that The Real World cameras aren’t welcome at their establishments.

“We’re not really an MTV-style club . . . People come here to hang out and have a drink or see a concert, not be bothered by film crews,” Black Cat owner Dante Ferrando told The Washington Post Monday.

The Real World DC wraps shooting in November and is scheduled to premiere next year.

Uh-oh…Not everyone is leaping for joy over MTV’s plans to bring its drama-packed reality series The Real World to little ole Washington.

One resident of the city’s upbeat and gay-friendly DuPont Circle neighborhood — where the Real Worlders will be shacking up this summer — has created an online community (theantirealworld.blogspot.com) as a gathering place for those who loathe all things reality TV-related — at least where their neighborhoods are concerned.

“MTV’s newest season of “The Real World” is being filmed 20 feet from my house. This blog will chronicle the pain and annoyance they put me through as well as the heckling my friends and I plan for the newest crop of “real worlders,” writes the disgruntled neighbor updating The Anti Real World Blog.

On Wednesday, the network put months of rumors to rest by announcing that its long-running reality drama The Real World will be filming its 23rd season in the Nation’s Capitol this summer.

According to Washington’s ABC affiliate WJLA, Eight young adults will move into a house at 20th and S streets near Dupont Circle, which is currently under construction, as it is transformed into a 24-hour TV set. In recent days, photos of the construction have been posted on several local blogs and Web sites.

“The charged atmosphere of Washington D.C., the center of our country’s social and political change, will provide an electric setting for this next season of ‘The Real World,’” Tony DiSanto, MTV’s president of programming, said in press statement released this afternoon.

“We are thrilled to be filming our classic franchise in the heart of where history is being made … it adds a whole new dimension to the great characters and drama our viewers expect and love from ‘The Real World,” he continued.

Even the city’s usually-no-nonsense mayor, Adrian Fenty, managed to get in on the excitement sweeping reality fans in the city, releasing this statement: “In a time when our country has witnessed the impact and spirit of our nation’s young people, it is a pleasure to welcome MTV and ‘The Real World’ cast to the District of Columbia as they utilize the immense opportunities that the District’s backdrop will undoubtedly provide.”

The Real World: Washington, D.C. will premiere in 2010.

MTV is hiring staff in the Nation’s Capital — prompting speculation that the next season of the network’s long-running reality series The Real World is on its way to Washington.

MTV has ordered four more seasons of its aging reality hit The Real World.

The order will extend the 17-year-old docudrama–centering around a group of strangers living under one roof-to 26 cycles.

The current season of The Real World: Brooklyn will air its finale on Wednesday. Producers are presently shooting the series’ next cycle, The Real World: Cancun, which is set to premiere later this year.

The Real World is heading south of the border.

The Mexican vacation destination of Cancun will serve as the setting for the show’s 22nd season, The Hollywood Reporter has lerarned. There, the housemates will work with spring break resource site StudentCity.com to serve as guides for visiting college students.

“They’re going to help give people a safe and fun vacation,” co-creator Jonathan Murray said. “They also might have to bail somebody out of a Mexican jail, stuff like that.”

“Cancun is a good one to do after Brooklyn, which was a more gritty environment,” Murray said.

Production has started on the season, and The Real World: Cancun will debut later this year.

The Real World 21: Brooklyn premieres Wednesday, January 7 @ 10 PM on MTV.
