Animal rights group People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA) has named Oprah Winfrey its “Person of the Year” for using her “powerful voice to defend those without one,” says PETA President Ingrid E. Newkirk.
The Queen of Talk will be presented with an award plaque and a letter of appreciation.
“She has used her show to uncover horrific cases of cruelty to animals in puppy mills and on factory farms, and Oprah even used the show to highlight the cruelty-free vegan diet that she tried.”

Actress Kristen Johnson is stripping off in a new PETA ad campaign in hopes of garnering support for New York City council member Dan Garodnick’s bill to phase out the Big Apple’s trademark horse-drawn carriages.
In the ad, the actress, best known for her role on the ’90s sitcom 3rd Rock From the Sun, poses nude under the tagline: “Don’t Get Taken for a Ride—Horse-Drawn Carriages Are Cruel.”
