On Wednesday night, music legend Paul McCartney returned to New York’s famous Ed Sullivan Theater 45 years after his first appearance on The Ed Sullivan Show sparked “Beatlemania” in America. During his chat on the Late Show with David Letterman, Paul McCartney opened up about befriending and later drifting apart from the late Michael Jackson.

Paul said he first met Michael in the early ’80s, after the star called asking if he wanted to make some hit songs together.

“You know, he came to my house and we got to know the family and stuff,” Paul told Dave. “We had a really good time. We made a couple of records together ["Say Say Say" and "The Girl is Mine"], did a video and were very good friends.”

The Brit admits that the friendship was never quite the same, though, after Michael bought the Beatles music catalogue and decided not to sell it to Paul.

“He kept saying, ‘That’s just business, Paul, you know,’ so I went, ‘Yeah, it is,’ and waited for a reply. But we never kind of got to it and I thought, ‘Mmmmm,’ so we kind of drifted apart. It was no big bust-up. We kind of drifted apart after that. But he was a lovely man, massively talented and we miss him.”

“I’d love to do a duet with you,” the heiress reportedly told Sir Paul at a party for the Recording Academy in Los Angeles on Sunday night. “I’m a singer too and have had an album out.”

One onlooker told The Sun: “Sir Paul was minding his own business when Paris traipsed right up to him and introduced herself.”

When that didn’t work, Paris complimented the 60-year-old on his hair, saying: “It’s just like in The Beatles. It’s so cute.”

“He looked bemused, smiled and nodded — then stumbled out that he’d have to check his schedule,” says the spy, who adds, “I don’t think we’ll be hearing the duet any time soon.”

“Heather has been moaning her money isn’t going as far as she thought, but she’s just burning her way through it. She reckons she has spent $10 million since the divorce and still doesn’t have a finished house to live in,” a snitch claims.

The outspoken animal rights activist, 40, is rumored to be so worried about her finances that she has asked her Beatle-singing ex to purchase an $8 million East Sussex, England home for her because she cannot afford to renovate it.

Heather has spent $2 million renovating her luxury English estate and in July she bought a $5 million New York apartment. The former model has spent $12 million on other real estate properties and an additional $1 million on staff wages.

As rumors of a pending divorce surround Madonna and husband Guy Ritchie, the legendary singer has reportedly hired the divorce lawyer who represented Sir Paul McCartney in his bitter battle with ex-wife Heather Mills.

Madonna wants Fiona Shackleton to represent her case against Guy.

“Madonna always seeks out the best in whatever field she is interested in at any given time. Fiona Shackleton is the best,” a source tells the Daily Mail.

“Madonna was impressed by Fiona’s work for Sir Paul and the way she handles herself in the public eye. She is a consummate professional.”

Heather Mills has removed traces of ex-husband Sir Paul McCartney from her iPod. The former model used to rock out to some Paul’s greatest hits, like “Lady Madonna” and “Live And Let Die” while working out, but not anymore.

A friend of Heather’s personal trainer Ben Amigoni told the Daily Express: “Ben said Heather used to have a mix of Paul’s songs as her workout selection. But now she’s deleted all those tracks and has chosen dance tunes to do her routines to. Ben finds it funny.”

The former couple ended a bitter and lengthy earlier this year.

Sir Paul McCartney has another accolade to add to his illustrious music career. The former Beatle was awarded an Honorary Doctor of Music during the Yale University Commencement ceremonies in New Haven, Conn. on Monday.
