Charlize Theron didn’t have the consent of Nelson Mandela to put a meeting with him under the hammer at an auction last week.

The actress auctioned a meeting with the former South African president at a charity event in San Francisco earlier this month — the same event where she famously smooched another woman — but the Nelson Mandela Foundation said a meet-and-greet with the anti-apartheid icon needed “a rigorous process” and that the South African-born star was yet to send in a request.

“Not even the charity foundations Mandela himself established are allowed to auction off time with him,” NMF’s chief executive Achmat Dangor Dangor said in a statement to the BBC on Wednesday.

In a bid to unite the fractured nation through sport, Mandela joins forces with Francois Pienaar (Matt Damon, captainof the Springbrooks South African rugby team, who he encourages to push the team through the 1995 World Cup Championships.

The film is already creating Oscar buzz for four-time Academy Award winner Eastwood, who was awarded a pair of Oscars for Unforgiven and Million Dollar Baby which both picked up Best Director and Best Picture trophies.

Eighties pop star Cyndi Lauper teamed up with femcee Lil Kim for a duet performance of Cyndi’s smash classic “Time After Time” at the 91st birthday concert for former South African president Nelson Mandela. The Nelson Mandela Foundation and 46664 hosted the headliner event at New York City’s Radio City Music Hall on Saturday, July 18.

France’s first lady Carla Bruni, soul legend Aretha Franklin, rocker Bruce Springsteen, Alicia Keys, and Stevie Wonder were other notables present at yesterday’s celebration.

Grammy Award winner Amy Winehouse performs her smash single “Rehab” as part of the 46664 Concert Celebration, honoring the life of Nelson Mandela.

Despite snubbing a Thursday night photocall with the humantarian icon in favor of a trip to the liquor store, Amy Winehouse has big plans for her performance at the festival celebration for Nelson Mandela’s 90th birthday celebration in London’s Hyde Parkm Friday night.

“The rehearsals for the Mandela show have been going so well, her people are ­worried she’ll go over her ­allotted two-song time slot….She’s planning to do Love Is A Losing Game and Tears Dry On Their Own, but has hinted she’ll sing Happy Birthday to Mandela like Marilyn Monroe once sang to John F Kennedy.”

The Mandela Birthday Concert, to also feature Will Smith and Leona Lewis, will be broadcast live in the UK, the U.S, and Africa.

Nelson Mandela has banned Naomi Campbell from attending his 90th birthday celebration in London’s Hyde Park this weekend. The former South African president, an international icon for fighting injustice, was taken aback by the supermodel’s recent run-in with the law aboard a British Airways flight to Los Angeles.

“The man himself intervened and she was pulled off the list. He was disappointed with her recent arrest — particularly as she was wearing a 46664 baseball cap at the time,” a spy told the British press on Wednesday. (46664 was Mandela’s prison number during his twenty-seven years of incarceration.)

Naomi’s spokeswoman told the Daily Mail: “Naomi had never planned to go to the concert but she has been invited as a guest to his dinner tonight.”

VH1 will air the star-studded concert in celebration of Nelson Mandela’s 90th birthday later this month. The network will broadcast The 46664 Concert Honoring Nelson Mandela at 90 live from Hyde Park in London on June 27th. Academy Award-nominated actor Will Smith will serve as VH1’s on-site correspondent for the event as artists like Amy Winehouse, Leona Lewis, and Annie Lennox take the stage in honor of the iconic former South African president.
