Our Favorite Hellraising supermodel — balding catwalker Naomi Campbell — is in trouble with the law again.
Relax, no electronic devices or mild-mannered housekeepers were injured in the model’s latest scrap with justice. It appears an inability to fork over the dough — not her explosive temper — is at the center of Campbell’s problems. On July 28, Naomi was slapped with an IRS tax lien for non-payment of taxes and Uncle Sam says it’s time for the British beauty to pay up!
On Monday, actress/humanitarian Mia Farrow took the witness stand contradicting model Naomi Campbell’s testimony in the war crimes trial of former Liberian ruler Charles Taylor.
Naomi’s former agent — Carole White — also testified that the supermodel told her she was going to be given diamonds by the former Liberian president Charles Taylor.
Farrow has told Taylor’s war crimes trial that volatile catwalker Naomi Campbell knew the allegedly genocidal leader had sent aides to hand her “a huge diamond” – contradicting the supermodel’s testimony.
Taylor, 62, is on trial at The Hague for his alleged role in the 1991-2001 civil war in Sierra Leone that claimed approximately 120,000 lives. He attended a charity event hosted by Mandela where he is alleged to have given Campbell so-called blood diamonds. The illegally-mined diamonds are alleged to have been used to arm rebels who murdered, raped and maimed Sierra Leoneans.
“I remember… having breakfast and I remember that Naomi Campbell joined us at the table,” the Rosemary’s Baby actress, 65, told the court. “She said that in the night she had been wakened by some men who were knocking at the door… they had been sent by Charles Taylor and they gave her a huge diamond. She said she intended to give the diamond to the Nelson Mandela Children’s Charity.”
On Thursday, supermodel Naomi Campbell testified in a Hague Court in Sierra Leone that after a charity dinner at the South Africa home of former President Nelson Mandela 13 years ago, she was mysteriously given diamonds, used to fund war crimes in Sierra Leone, by two men working for former Liberian dictator Charles Taylor.
Naomi is said to have received a “blood diamond” from Taylor, who faces charges including criminal responsibility for murder, rape, sexual slavery and the use of child soldiers. Taylor was elected president of Liberia in 1997 but was forced to step down six years later and went into exile in Nigeria.
War crimes prosecutors want to subpoena supermodel Naomi Campbell to testify over a so-called blood diamond she allegedly received from former Liberian president Charles Taylor while the pair where guests in the home of former South African president Nelson Mandela in 1997.
A prosecution motion filed with the Special Court for Sierra Leone Thursday reads: “Ms Campbell’s testimony is necessary as there is evidence that Ms Campbell was given rough diamonds by the accused (Taylor) in September 1997.”
Actress Mia Farrow has already told UN officials that Naomi blabbed to her about receiving large, uncut diamonds from Taylor.
