On Monday, rival social networking services Facebook and MySpace announced that members will be able to get online video of Tuesday’s public memorial for Michael Jackson.

Singers Stevie Wonder, Jennifer Hudson and Mariah Carey are among a bevy of stars slated to appear at today’s memorial service at the Staples Center in Los Angeles.

The 90-minute event will celebrate of the life of legendary pop icon Michael Jackson, who died on June 25 at age 50 of an apparent cardiac arrest.

Facebook users will be able to watch streaming video of the Tuesday memorial courtesy of an alliance with CNN Live. While MySpace members will get the same opportunity, thanks to a collaboration with AEG.

“The memorial will be streamed real time, free, and people will be able to comment or link over to Michael Jackson’s profile,” said Sarah Joyce of MySpace Music. “We are picking up the stream and showing our support.”

A Michael Jackson page at Facebook has topped 6.5 million fans, making it the top “fan page” on the site. Free virtual versions of Jackson’s infamous glove are the most popular gift at Facebook, with more than 800,000 having been sent to members.

“Internet users across the globe can watch (the memorial) live while simultaneously updating their Facebook status and following their friends on Facebook — and other Jackson fans around the world,” Facebook said in a release this week.

On Monday, Twilight author Stephanie Meyer announced on her official website that she would no longer be using her MySpace — or any social networking site — to inteact with fans.

The novelist previously used her MySpace page to clear up any news and rumors about the books and involve herself in discussions about the novels. Now she says she’ll only communicate with fans via her official website.

“It was a lot of fun while it lasted, and I really miss the early days when I could hang out with people online,” Stephanie said on her website. “Many of you are hilarious and insightful, and I wish it was easier for me to talk to everyone the way I used to.”

Stephanie also warned fans about the possibility of online impostors. “With MySpace no longer in existence, I can now clearly state that…there is no other outlet where I communicate with people online,” she continued. “I do not have a Facebook page, and I have never had one. I don’t do Twitter. So if you’re communicating with someone online that you think is me, it’s not.”

Paris Hilton has sparked speculation that MySpace CEO Chris DeWolfe is her latest victim after the pair were spied “sucking face” at the Sundance Film Festival over the weekend.

“They were grinding each other on the dance floor forever, before lying together on a banquette,” says a New York Daily News spywitness. “Then the couple began sucking face hard. They left out the back door, with her hand in his pants pocket.”

In honor of tomorrow’s inauguration, MySpace and Ashton Kutcher’s production company, Katalyst Media, created “The Presidential Pledge.” Directed by actress Demi Moore, celebrities recorded a pledge of service about their plans to help America.

The purpose of the videos is to encourage other Americans to make their own commitment to our country and upload their Presidential Pledge to MySpace.
