A federal judge postponed a retrial Monday in a wrongful death lawsuit brought by the family of slain rapper Notorious B.I.G. against the city.
Judge Florence-Marie Cooper postponed the retrial to Jan. 16 to give the family’s attorneys more time to seek information from the defense.
The rapper, whose real name was Christopher Wallace, was shot and killed in 1997 after a party in Los Angeles. The murder has not been solved.
In the lawsuit, the rapper’s family claims that rogue police officers were involved in the killing.
Last summer, Cooper declared a mistrial after finding that a police detective intentionally hid statements by a jailhouse informant linking the killing to former officers David Mack and Rafael Perez.
The judge also ordered the city to pay $1.1 million in legal fees and other expenses to the rapper’s family.
The next big hit will certainly arise from MySpace. Ok, maybe not. But let’s say it did. This bad-ass band has as good a chance as anyone else. They have some groovy music on their profile.
French for ‘butterfly,’ the indie band Papillon produces music that exudes a similar quality to that of their namesake. This five person band, now based in Los Angeles, have a sound that features pop lyrics (in both English and French) laced over a backdrop that has a strong electronic/dub influence, albeit with traditional guitars and drums mixed in as well. It all comes together wonderfully and it’s not hard to see why the band is performing up and down the West Coast and have worked with world reknown engineers/producers for their upcoming album. 3 of the 4 tracks on their MySpace profile are available for download. Check ‘em out.
I hope this isn’t because Zach Braff started a video blog.
Us Weekly is reporting Zach Braff and Mandy Moore have split up after going out for a year and a half. Braff was spotted at Hyde on June 8 downing drinks and trying to get with Jessica Simpson, despite costar Christa Miller saying on Howard Stern Monday that they were still together. A source says:
“There was no drama. They were ready. Mandy was very young when they got together and she wanted to see what’s out there, now that she’s a woman. Zach was mature and realized it was time to let her do that.”
There’s a reason you don’t see many beautiful women with ugly men, and thats because at some point in their lives they realize they have eyes. And they can see with them. I’m sure Zach is a very nice fellow, but if these two were to enter a beauty contest one would end up in the top 10 and the other would be mistaken for the janitor. Or her dad.
Sheryl Crow has made a few adjustments since returning to the stage after battling breast cancer.
She still performs more than two hours each night, but the Grammy Award-winning singer-songwriter is more apt to take a nap during the day. And she’s added a private chef to her road crew to ensure she’s eating healthy.
But the biggest adjustment may be in her attitude. After enduring surgery, Crow is more appreciative of her blessings, and that includes her life as a performer.
