Madonna has hired more than 400 bodyguards after receiving death threats from Balkan fanatics, who worked to keep her from performing her Sticky & Sweet Concert in front of 30,000 fans in Belgrade, Serbia on Monday night.
The controversial Material Mama arrived in disguise and surrounded by a posse of burly bodyguards after receiving threatening messages ahead of her first performance in the Serbian capital, The Daily Star reports.
Madonna has been left so shaken by the death threats, she’s decided to pay the guards to accompany her to neighboring Romania, where she is set to play later this evening.
Her rep Liz Rosenberg has declined to comment further on the nature of the threats.

Madonna has upset the Holy Rollers again….What else is new?
Orthodox Church officials in Bulgaria are urging locals to boycott the Material Girl’s concert this weekend, accusing the pop legend of disrespecting Christianity.
The show at Sofia’s Vasil Levski Stadium is expected to be attended by about 50,000 people on Saturday.
The Church of Bulgaria issued a statement Tuesday expressing “disapproval and disagreement” with the concert and accuses the pop legend of displaying “a disrespectful and intolerant attitude” toward Christians during her Sticky & Sweet World Tour.
“Louise Esther Ciccone, with almost every concert in a Christian country, displays a disrespectful and intolerant attitude to the religious feelings of the Christians there,” the statement reads.
