Lauren Conrad’s bestselling semi-autobiographical debut novel is being adapted for the big screen, Variety reported Tuesday.

Marty Bowen and Wyck Godfrey, executive producers of Twilight, have purchased the film rights to the book through their Temple Hill company. Lauren is expected to will serve as an executive producer.

L.A. Candy was inspired by the socialite’s experiences as star of the popular MTV docudrama. It follows 19-year-old Jane Roberts from her arrival in Hollywood through the height of her fame as a reality TV star. Lauren is set to pen two more books featuring Jane under the HarperCollins imprint.

“Lauren, who became an icon in that reality show world, came to us with a structure of how to tell the story in an interesting fashion that was separate and apart from the book,” Bowen told Variety Tuesday. “We loved her take. Her book is an honest portrayal of what it must be like to set out to be normal, then sign on to become famous and eventually realise, wow, this isn’t at all what I’d planned for myself.”

Things are heating up between Lauren Conrad and beau Kyle Howard.

LC and Kyle have been dating since July 2008, and the 31-year-old businessman is so crazy about the SoCal born bestselling novelist, 23, that he’s in the market for an engagement ring and is planning to propose marriage to the former reality star over the Christmas holiday, In Touch has revealed.

If Kyle and Lauren tie the knot, a lifetime of wedded bliss won’t be the only joint venture between these two lovebirds. MTV is hoping to capitalize on Lauren’s love by recruiting their former Hills protagonist for a new unscripted series, this one documenting her romance with Kyle, spies say.

“Lauren and Kyle have been approached by MTV executives about starring n their own reality series,” says an insider. “It will be about their romance or possibly even their married life.”

Life after The Hills has been good to Lauren, who has become a successful author — with her first novel, L.A. Candy hitting The New York Times Bestsellers List — and designed a line for Kohl’s since leaving her MTV reality show in May.
