Lauren Conrad’s bestselling semi-autobiographical debut novel is being adapted for the big screen, Variety reported Tuesday.
Marty Bowen and Wyck Godfrey, executive producers of Twilight, have purchased the film rights to the book through their Temple Hill company. Lauren is expected to will serve as an executive producer. L.A. Candy was inspired by the socialite’s experiences as star of the popular MTV docudrama. It follows 19-year-old Jane Roberts from her arrival in Hollywood through the height of her fame as a reality TV star. Lauren is set to pen two more books featuring Jane under the HarperCollins imprint.
“Lauren, who became an icon in that reality show world, came to us with a structure of how to tell the story in an interesting fashion that was separate and apart from the book,” Bowen told Variety Tuesday. “We loved her take. Her book is an honest portrayal of what it must be like to set out to be normal, then sign on to become famous and eventually realise, wow, this isn’t at all what I’d planned for myself.”

If Kyle and Lauren tie the knot, a lifetime of wedded bliss won’t be the only joint venture between these two lovebirds. MTV is hoping to capitalize on Lauren’s love by recruiting their former Hills protagonist for a new unscripted series, this one documenting her romance with Kyle, spies say.
“Lauren and Kyle have been approached by MTV executives about starring n their own reality series,” says an insider. “It will be about their romance or possibly even their married life.”

L.A. Candy: The Movie could be on the way to a theater near year.
Former MTV reality starlet Lauren Conrad has revealed that a film adaptation of her semi-autobiographical novel — a New York Times Best-Seller — has been discussed.
“We’re hoping for a movie deal,” LC revealed while hosting the Pool After Dark party at Harrah’s in Atlantic City over the weekend. “I’m working on [adapting the book for the movies] right now, but I don’t want to commit to anything until I see all my options. We have had a lot of exciting news in that respect, though.”
L.A. Candy –loosely based on Lauren’s life — follows Jane Roberts, a girl who moves to Hollywood and ends up with her own reality show.
The Orange County native is currently working on her second novel as part of a three book deal with Simon & Schuester.
