Now openly gay singer Ricky Martin and Emmy-winning Broadway babe Kristin Chenoweth will be honored for their work to encourage equal rights for the gay community at the Gay & Lesbian Alliance Against Defamation’s (GLAAD) annual Media Awards in New York City (March 19) and Los Angeles (April 10) later this year.
Actress Kristin Chenoweth — who won a Primetime Emmy for her role on the short-lived comedy Pushing Daisies — has taken aim at Newsweek for running a “bigoted and factually inaccurate” story that suggests gay actors can’t play straight roles.
The story — published on the publication’s website last week — cited Sean Hayes, Chenoweth’s Tony-nominated co-star in the Broadway production Promises, Promises, and Glee’s Jonathan Groff as prime examples of stars who can’t connect with audiences as heterosexual leads because they are gay.
