Kevin Costner Escapes Injury In Weather-Related Stage Collapse

Kevin Costner and his band Modern West narrowly avoided serious injury when a stage collapsed during a windstorm in Canada over the weekend.

The freak accident killed one and and injured 75 others.

The band was prepping to take the stage at the Big Valley Jamboree Festival in Camrose, Alberta, Canada on Saturday when a deadly thunderstorm caused the stage to cave in. Both Costner and his manager were trapped beneath the structure when it fell, but were able to crawl out to safety.

The actor and his band have released a statement regarding this week’s accident. “We are so sad about the loss of life and injury that occurred on a day that carried so much promise, but turned so wicked so quickly. We hope to return to Alberta in the future to help with the healing.”

Kevin Costner will release his first country music album this November, the accomplished actor revealed in a recent interview with PEOPLE Magazine.

“I remember looking into the crowd, thinking, ‘This just feels right,’” says Costner, 53, who has been performing with the Modern West for almost 20 years.

The 12-track album, featuring six songs co-written by Kevin, is set for release November 11.

The band is planning a tour, which will run later this year through 2009.

Kelsey Grammer and Kevin Costner have been sued over their new film Swing Vote, TMZ reports.

Screenwriter Bradley Blakeman, a former aide to President George W. Bush, filed suit in New York on Thursday claiming the movie, which opens in theaters today, was based on his script Go November-which he says he sent to Grammer “in confidence” in Spring 2006.

“I am not sure why Kelsey was even named in this suit. He was an actor who signed on to the project after the script was written,” says Grammer’s rep Stan Rosenfield.
