With Daytime Fans likely to be hit hard by the absence of The Big O (Oprah Winfrey, that is…) this fall, ABC announced Monday that they are bringing former NBC and CBS newswoman Katie Couric aboard to host a new afternoon talk show. The multi-year deal will give Couric a role at ABC News, The Hollywood Reporter reports, in which she will contribute to ABC News, anchoring specials, conducting interviews, and participating in special-events coverage.

It’s official: She’s done mornings and evenings, now veteran newswoman Katie Couric’s headed for daytime. The former host of NBC’s The TODAY Show and the CBS Evening News will host and produce a daily one-hour talk show premiering on ABC in Sept. 2012, The Hollywood Reporter has learned.
