After a tepid debut in 2007, armed with a new look and a take no prisoners approach American Idol Season 5 runner-up Katharine McPhee is trying her hand at Billboard gold once again with the release of her sophomore album, in stores this January.

Katharine McPhee sang her way into our hearts as runner-up on the fifth season of American Idol. Despite disappointing sales for her 2007 debut, the formerly brunette powerhouse is in the news again –thanks to the release of a new album and some freshly cropped tresses.
And doing good deeds is always in fashion….Star Magazine spies have learned that Katharine has donated her chopped hair to Locks of Love, the organization that makes wigs for children who have lost their own locks due to illness.
“Katharine has wanted to donate her hair for years and she loves her new look,” a tipster tattles.
Katharine’s sophomore album Unbroken hits store shelves in January. Her single ‘Had it All’ is available on iTunes now.
In recognization of Breast Cancer Awareness Month, FunnyOrDie.com has joined forces with HerEnergy.com, How I Met Your Mother’s Alyson Hannigan, Emily Deschanel, Minka Kelly, Jaime King, and the recently-bleached Katharine McPhee for a skit emphasising the importance of self breast exams.

The American Idol Season 5 runner-up, long known for long brunette locks, traded in her brown mane for a bleach blonde rocker look in new promo shots for her upcoming sophomore album, Unbroken — due out October 6.
“My music is a little more edgy so that inspired me to be adventurous.”
“I’ve never dyed my hair before so this was a pretty drastic change,” Katharine reveals in the August 17 issue of PEOPLE. “I’ve always been known as a brunette but I’ve been thinking about it for a long time and it kind of just fit with all of the searching with the music and experimenting that I would do the same thing with my look.”

The American Idol 5 runner-up, who cut her teeth on last fall’s sorority-themed comedy The House Bunny, was spied on the set of her latest movie, You May Not Kiss The Bride, which is filming in Hawaii this week.
K.P. is co-starring with Dave Annable in the romantic-comedy about an arranged marriage between a mobster’s daughter and a photographer.

Katharine McPhee and her House Bunny co-stars have released a video for Kat’s single “I Know What Boys Like,” featured in the new movie.
Katharine and actresses Emma Stone, Rumer Willis, and Anna Faris will introduce the video and promote their film on MTV’s Total Request Live this Wednesday.
The House Bunny opens in theaters on Friday.

Songstress turned actress Katharine McPhee was a special guest on Friday’s Live With Regis & Kelly, with Reg’s daughter Joanna sitting in for Kellz. Katharine is currently promoting her new film The House Bunny, co-starring Anna Farris and Rumer Willis.
American Idol Season 5 runner-up Katharine McPhee has recorded a track, entitled “Connected,” that will be featured in the upcoming movie Barbie & The Diamond Castle, coming straight-to-DVD September 9.
