Lawyers for Kate Winslet say the actress has accepted more than $40,000 in damages after The Daily Mail falsely reported in January she lied about her exercise regime.
Winslet — who won a Golden Globe and an Oscar earlier this year for the 2008 film The Reader –has been an outspoken critic of excessive dieting. In 2007, she won damages against a British magazine which wrongly stated she had visited a diet doctor.
Kate was not in court for this morning’s settlement, but wanted an apology “to demonstrate my commitment to the views that I have always expressed about body issues, including diet and exercise,” her lawyer said.

Kate Winslet wins an Oscar…finally. The British-born star won an Academy Award for Best Actress for her role in The Reader at The 81st Academy Awards in Hollywood on Sunday.
Kate Winslet stopped by The View on Wednesday to dish on her Best Actress nod at the 2009 Academy Awards.
As you may recall, Kate, who made a splash in the ’90s blockbuster Titanic, walked away with both Best Actress and Best Supporting Actress trophies at last month’s Golden Globes for her work in The Reader and Revoluntionary Road.
Kate Winslet swept The 66th Annual Golden Globe Awards on Sunday night. The 33-year-old star was named Best Actress In A Drama for her role in Revolutionary Road and Best Supporting Actress for The Reader.
After winning her second prize of the night, Kate apologized to fellow her nominees, but forgot Angelina Jolie’s name!
“I’m so sorry Anne, Meryl, Kristin – and who’s the other one? Angelina. Now forgive me, is this really happening?” Kate shrieked.
Golden Globe-nominated actress Kate Winslet, who recently reunited with Titanic co-star Leo DiCaprio in the big screen film Revolutionary Road, appeared on The Late Show with David Letterman on Thursday.
