Former American Idol Jordin Sparks is recovering in Los Angeles hospital after emergency surgery to have her appendix removed.
The 19-year-old singer had been scheduled to perform Down Under Australian Idol champ Guy Sebastian this Sunday, but has scrapped the show after being admitted to the hospital with acute appendicitis Wednesday night.

A former American Idol is bringing “The Battlefield” to Britney Spears’ Circus Tour.
Idol Season 6 winner Jordin Sparks will join previously announced opening act Kristinia DeBarge as Britney’s special guest on the second North American leg of the tour, according to an announcement on BritneySpears.com Friday.

Jordin Sparks believes she will likely be the target of all of Russell Brand’s jokes when the British comic returns to host the MTV Video Music Awards in New York this September.
Jordin’s certain she’s in the doghouse with Russ after standing up to the comedian at last year’s ceremony. The former American Idol star took to the stage to champion virginity after Brand publicly razzed The Jonas Brothers for wearing purity rings.
Speaking to MTV News, the singer said: “He’ll probably target me for saying that. It’s okay, Russell. I can take it. I got my armor!”
“Does he have any other jokes besides the sexual ones? Nothing mean about it. I’m just asking. It’s an honest question.”
Jordin Sparks, who rose to prominence as winner of the sixth season of American Idol, dropped her sophomore album, Battlefield, on Tuesday.
