Less than a month after Joel Madden and Nicole Richie welcomed their second child — a son they’ve decided to call Sparrow — the couple is expressing worry over their oldest child Harlow, who at almost 2-years-old is “having a tough time adjusting” to the idea of being a big sister to her brand new baby bro, The National Enquirer claims in its Sept. 28 print issue.

Tabloid tattles claim the 20-month-old is upset she is no longer the sole center of her parents’ world, and she’s not sharing the spotlight without plenty of hellraising.

“Harlow is used to being doted on day and night, by not only her parents, but their entire extended family and circle of friends,” says a source, who asked not to be identified. “A few days before giving birth Nicole told Harlow: ‘Get ready — you’re going to be a big sister soon!’ Little Harlow screamed ‘No!’ and threw a temper tantrum,” The Enquirer writes.

“She was already beginning to experience the ‘Terrible Twos’ before Sparrow’s birth, but now Harlow’s even more of a handful — testing boundaries and throwing temper tantrums,” the insider adds. “She crawls into Nicole’s lap every chance she gets and begs to be hugged.”

Joel and Nicole are hoping to curb Harlow’s insecurities with a series of special outings. The Good Charlotte rocker has promised to take his little girl out to the park and for ice cream in a few weeks and Nicole is planning a mother-daughter lunch especially for Harlow.

The reality starlet gave birth to new son, Sparrow James Midnight Madden, in Los Angeles early Wednesday morning. And weighing in at 7lbs. 14oz, Sparrow isn’t just a big baby, his big news on the popular micro-blogging website.

“What a great day to come back on Twitter,” mom Nicole Tweeted late Wednesday. “Thank you everyone for your well wishes. I love my family!!”

Joel also updated his account with a post about his newborn, writing: “1st day of his life & my son is already a trending topic on twitter. That’s right son, ur just like your old man.”

The socialite gave birth to Sparrow James Midnight Madden, early Wednesday, the couple announced in a statement on Nicole’s website this afternoon.

The healthy baby boy weighed in at 7lbs. 14oz.

“In the middle of night, the very early hours of September 9, 2009 Sparrow James Midnight Madden was born to Nicole Richie and Joel Madden,” a statement reads. “Nicole, Joel, Harlow and Sparrow are all doing well. Thank you for all of your good wishes.”

The couple’s new bundle of joy, whose sex is still unknown, will join big sister Harlow Winter Kate, who was born in January 2008.

AM, born Adam Goldstein, was found dead in his Manhattan apartment of a suspected drug overdose last Friday night. Nicole — a recovering addict herself — dated Adam for two years before the couple split in 2006. They remained friends — which is why the Hollywood DJ’s death has been so devastating for the beloved reality personality, who is expecting her second child with Joel next month, The National Enquirer reports.

“They were in touch over the big things, like her pregnancies and the plane crash,” says a spy. “They felt permanently connected, although they had both moved on in terms of their romantic lives.”

Nicole was so overcome with grief after learning of Adam’s death, she broke down in tears, crying so uncontrollably friends feared the petite socialite was going into premature labor.

“She was crushed,” The Enquirer tipster claims. “She broke down and thought she was having contractions.”

Friends say Nicole is heartbroken that the man who helped her kick a dangerous addiction to heroin still struggled with his own sobriety in his final days. But her emotional reaction to her ex’s death has Joel — who has a 19-month-old daughter, Harlow, with the star — questioning whether his longtime girlfriend has been harboring feelings for Adam.

“It ended up in a big fight,” the tabloid claims. “Nicole was angry that Joel would even ask that –during her time of grief — AND when she was so close to giving birth!”
