Joe Simpson — father and manager of Hollywood’s Ashlee and Jessica Simpson — is developing a Nickelodeon comedy loosely based on his life as a psychologist raising two daughters in Texas. The untitled project centers on one of the daughters, who begins imitating her father and doling out life advice to her classmates at school.
This isn’t Joe’s first tango with television producing; in addition to steering a series of TV projects for his famous daughters, the notorious stage dad also contributed to the now-defunct ABC drama Women’s Murder Club. Simpson worked as a minister and shrink before leaving work to help Jessica and Ashlee navigate their careers.

Joe Simpson is tired of tabloid reports claiming that he doesn’t like his oldest daughter’s NFL star boyfriend, Tony Romo.
The notorious stage dade is slamming a report featured in the March 30 issue of The National Enquirer that claims he wants daughter Jessica Simpson to end her year-long romance with the Dallas Cowboys quarterback because he’s become too much of a distraction from already fleeting career.
“So tired of people saying I don’t like Jess and Tony… He is the best…” the former pastor said on his Twitter page on Wednesday. “Don’t believe the National Enquirer!!!”
