Novice reporter and trained educator Jenna Bush isn’t winning any rave reviews for her unskilled news reading as a special correspondent on NBC’s The TODAY Show — at least not from acid-tongued comedienne Chelsea Handler. On Tuesday’s Chelsea Lately, the E! personality gleefully poked fun at the former First Daughter’s awkward report from Yellowstone National Park this week.
“It’s pretty clear you got this job because of your father, much like your father got his job because of his father,” Chelsea mocked, while mimicking Jenna’s nervous stutter and delivery, which Chelsea refers to as a “tasty dumbass treat.”
The former First Daughter, who plans to keep her part-time job as a sixth-grade reading resource teacher in Baltimore, will serve as The TODAY Show’s resident educational correspondent. Her first assignment was a feature on Dalton Sherman, a 11-year-old Dallas boy with a knack for public speaking.
After her segment, TODAY anchor Matt Lauer gave Jenna a high-five. “It’s nerve-wracking what she just did,” Lauer said. “You think about 6 million people watching you, and as they say, you never get a second chance to make a good first impression. I think she did a great job.”
Hager, a 27-year-old teacher in Baltimore, will contribute TODAY stories about once a month on issues like education.
Tune in to TODAY on Friday, Sept. 18 to catch Jenna Hager’s first piece since joining the program. She will profile Dalton Sherman, an 11-year-old motivational speaker from Dallas.

A lesbian wedding at the Bush ranch? First Lady Laura Bush and her recently-wed daughter Laura Bush-Hager appeared on The Ellen DeGeneres Show on Wednesday. As new wife Laura gushed on about her Mother’s Day Weekend nuptials at the family’s Crawford, Texas ranch, the newly-engaged Ellen playfully tried to secure the facility for her own forthcoming wedding to girlfriend Portia de Rossi.
Ellen said: “So, the ranch was a great place to get married – it looked like nobody could fly over and get pictures or bother you, really! So, can Portia and I borrow it for our wedding? Can we get the ranch?”
