On Tuesday, NBC announced the launch date for former late night funnyman Jay Leno’s new primetime series on the network. The Jay Leno Show will premiere on Sept. 14.
The new hour-long primetime special, starring the biggest chin in showbusiness, will air weeknights @ 10 PM. Upon its premiere, The Jay Leno Show will be the first talk-entertainment show to run five nights a week in primetime, according to The Associated Press.
Jay Leno ended his 17-year run as host of The Tonight Show last Friday. On Monday, comedian Conan O’Brien took over the show’s new host.
On Monday, actor Mel Gibson dropped by The Tonight Show to set the record straight on his relationship with a pregnant Russian pop star, just as The Leno Era of prepares to come to an end after nearly twenty years this Friday.
“This is true, we’re going to have a child. I guess I’m Octo-Mel now,” the Lethal Weapon star joked.
This will be the eighth child for 53-year-old Gibson, who already seven children with his estranged wife, Robyn. Robyn filed for divorce six weeks ago.
“My wife and I, our marriage ended three years ago and we’ve been separated ever since then,” Mel told Jay on last night’s show. “These things happen. It’s unfortunate, it’s sad, but you know she is an admirable woman – we still got kids together. We’re friends.”

Jay’s final chat as host of The Tonight Show will be with none other than his successor, Conan O’Brien.
Conan will appear as the last guest on Jay’s final show, which will air Friday, May 29 on NBC, Jay — who is leaving The Tonight Show after a 17 year run — made the announcement during conference call on Thursday morning.

The week of May 25th will be Jay Leno’s last as the host of The Tonight Show– and but it looks like the comedian with the classic chin will welcome a host of exciting guests as his seventeen year bag of laughs comes to an end.
Monday, May 25: Look for Mel Gibson and Lyle Lovett, who will be making his 25th appearance.
Tuesday, May 26: California Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger makes his 25th appearance on the show. He will be joined by country music-great Dwight Yoakam.
Wednesday, May 27: Jay’s guests include Wanda Sykes and Sarah McLachlan.
Thursday, May 28: The first guest to appear on The Tonight Show with Jay Leno — comedian Billy Crystal — returns, as does musical guest Prince.
Friday, May 29: The guests for the last episode of The Tonight Show with Jay Leno will be announced later this week.
