Janet Jackson will lead off this year’s American Music Awards with a “special opening performance,” following her tribute to brother Michael at the MTV Video Music Awards last August. Michael Jackson received five posthumous nominations for the upcoming ABC award show.

“We’re thrilled about having Janet Jackson open this year’s show,” American Music Awards producer Larry Klein said in a release. “She is an incredibly dynamic performer, and I think the audience will be excited to see what she has in store.”
The 2009 American Music Awards airs live from the Nokia Theatre in Los Angeles Nov. 22 @ 8:00 PM EST on ABC.
In her first TV interview since the death of Michael Jackson, the icon’s younger sister Janet will open up to ABC’s Robin Roberts.

From Janet To Taylor: In an interview On-Air With Ryan Seacrest on Friday, country music star Taylor Swift was surprised by some of the celeb reactions to her infamous stage-crashing moment with Kanye West at the 2009 MTV Video Music Awards last Sunday.


In fact — Taylor received a bouquet of flowers from one fellow superstar.
“It’s wonderful to have so much love and support sent in my direction,” Taylor told Ryan. “I got flowers from Janet Jackson!”

Madonna and Janet Jackson are planning a duet tribute to Michael Jackson.
The two singers are working on a smash single to honor the late King of Pop after bonding over dinner following Sunday’s MTV Video Music Awards in New York, OK! Magazine reported Thursday.

Janet honored her brother with a lively dance tribute and Madonna made a tearful six minute speech about her friendship with the music icon in a moving opening to the ceremony.
“With that one performance Janet proved she’s back on top of her game. And who better to join forces with than Madonna?” an insider blabs.
Madge’s dream of singing with MJ was dashed by his death llast June, and now the Queen of Pop is plotting the next best thing – working with his kid sister.
“It was a meeting of two great musical minds. Madonna was so impressed with Janet’s tribute to Michael that they started talking about how great it would be to honour him by doing something together. There was definitely something very interesting being planned between them.”
Janet Jackson performed a tribute to her brother Michael at the 26th annual MTV Music Video Awards, live from Radio City Music Hall in New York City on Sunday. A montage of the star’s songs and videos played, including “Thriller,” “Bad,” “Smooth Criminal” and finally, “Scream,” the duet that won Michael and Janet a VMA in 1995.
Michael’s friend Madonna took the stage to open the ceremony, telling the crowd that the late pop star had been a “King” – but also human.
“He was so unique, so original, so rare,” the Pop Queen said. “He was a king – but he was also a human being. We are all human beings and sometimes, we have to lose things before we appreciate them.”
Janet Jackson is speaking out in her first interview since the death of her older brother, pop legend Michael Jackson.

Janet tells Harper’s Bazaar Magazine that she hasn’t watched television since learning of Michael’s death of an overdose on June 25. At times, the star still struggles with the concept that her brother is gone, at one point in the interview, Janet refers to Michael in the present tense, saying, “My brother is, I mean was…..You have to forgive me, because it’s really hard to believe he’s passed.”

This just in: MTV has announced that Janet Jackson will make a special appearance at this weekend’s Video Music Awards in a much anticipated tribute performance honoring the legendary career of her late brother Michael Jackson.

Janet paid tribute to her brother last week, shortly before he was laid to rest at Forest Lawn Memorial Park and Mortuary in Glendale Calif., through her Twitter account.
“I love you, Mike, and I miss you,” Janet wrote.
She signed the Tweet “Dunk,” Michael’s nickname for her.
The 2009 MTV Video Music Awards will take place this Sunday, September 13, @ 9PM, live from Radio City Music Hall.

Janet and a group of 20 backup dancers are working with world-renowned choreographers like Frank Gatson and Travis Payne on a stage spectacular in Michael’s honor, set for Sunday, Sept. 13 live from Radio City Music Hall in New York.
In 1995, Michael and Janet took home a VMA Moonman for their video collabo “Scream.”
