Jamie Lynn Spears’ boyfriend has been removed from the intensive care unit of a Mississippi hospital, where he has been treated since a serious car crash on Sunday.

Casey Aldridge – the father of the former child star’s 10-month-old daughter Maddie –was charged with careless operation of a motor vehicle after he crashed his 2008 Ford F-250 after his cousin’s bachelor party.

Casey, 19, and three of the passengers were thrown from the vehicle after Casey lost control. A fourth passenger — who was not ejected — was the only person in the truck who was wearing a seatbelt.

Casey was rushed to the University of Mississippi Medical Center with a fractured skull.

Despite early worries that Casey may have suffered brain damage, his uncle Odus Jackson has revealed that he is alert and doing well.

“There was just a little swelling, but he’s alert. They’re keeping him under precaution for a couple of days to make sure that no bleeding starts, but at the moment he’s resting well and doing well…”

“He’s been talking, and they were keeping him awake as much as possible. It looks like he’s probably over the danger. I think they are about to keep him under observation for about three days. Doctors are telling him that he should recover to full normalcy. It’ll just take time for it all to heal up – the brain.”

Casey had been driving a 2008 Ford F-250 and had four young male passengers in the car. According to a spokesperson for the Louisiana State Police, while traveling on the LA 606 freeway at approximately 1:30AM on Sunday, Casey lost control of the vehicle and ran off the right side of the road into a ditch. He over-corrected when he swung the car back onto the road, causing it to roll over at least once. Casey and two of his passengers were ejected from the truck.

The 19-year-old has been rushed to a Jackson, Mississippi hospital with a suspected blood clot on the brain.

A friend of Aldridge’s reportedly broke his collarbone in the accident.

Casey was ticketed with careless operation of a motor vehicle, a traffic misdemeanor, following the accident.

Newsweek: You and Jamie Lynn got some negative press when she got pregnant so young. But more recently, 17-year-old Bristol Palin, and her mother, Sarah Palin, the Republican vice presidential candidate, found themselves in a similar situation. And the public reaction has been different.

Lynne Spears: It’s a totally different reaction. It’s as if [Sarah Palin] became celebrated. I mean, the mother, Palin, was celebrated for this. Every woman in the world has applauded her strength and her convictions and poor little old Jamie Lynn—you saw how she was crucified. Everybody did, firsthand … I just feel like it’s been a very hypocritical situation.
