Heath Ledger will have a theater named in his honor in his Perth, Australia hometown, the Associated Press reports. The Oscar-nominated actor died in January.
“Heath Ledger was totally dedicated to the craft of being an actor and that’s what made him successful,” Western Australia state Premier Alan Carpenter said at dedication ceremony Monday night. “I think what we’re doing is continuing that support for young people who want to make a career in the arts and acting, stage and in film, whatever it happens to be.”
The $87 million, 575 seat, Heath Ledger Theater is currently under construction.
Actress Michelle Williams has denied a Tuesday morning report from the New York Post claiming she is boycotting the July 14th premiere of Batman: Dark Knight over a will dispute with Heath Ledger’s family.
“The presumption that Michelle ever intended to attend The Dark Knight premiere is unfounded, but to say she is ‘boycotting’ due to a rift with Heath’s family is absurd,” Williams’s rep Mara Buxbaum said in a statement. “It is time to allow this family to go about their lives without this continued scrutiny and speculation.”

The actress is reportedly furious with the family of her late fiance, Heath Ledger, and threatening to boycott the movie opening-and all other events where the family may be present-until the Ledgers agree to provide some financial support for Heath and Michelle’s young daughter, Matilda. The formation of the Heath Ledger Scholarship Fund was announced at the 2008 Australians in Film Breakthrough Awards in Beverly Hills Thursday night. The fund has been set up in memory of Academy Award-nominated star Heath Ledger, who died in January at the age of twenty-eight. The Heath Ledger Scholarship is designed to “help struggling Aussie actors” succeed in the film industry.
