Ryan O’Neal and Alana Stewart take a look back at Hollywood icon Farrah Fawcett, who lost a 2 1/2-year battle with anal cancer one year ago on June 25. The 62-year-old died in Los Angeles on the same day the pop world lost “Thriller” icon Michael Jackson.
In 1981, Fawcett talked to Interview Magazine about being a woman in Hollywood: “If I make a mistake now, I would like it to be my own. I’ve made so many that weren’t mine, and I’ve had had to suffer the same consequences. You have to eventually grow up and take control of your life, which is very hard to do.”
Tori Spelling had a close encounter of the third kind with late bombshell Farrah Fawcett…either that or Girlie has officially flown over the cuckoo’s nest!
For the first time since Sunday’s Oscars, Academy Awards executive director Bruce Davis admitted Tuesday that Farrah Fawcett wasn’t included in the Academy Awards’ In Memoriam segment because the actress was better known as a TV star.
Farrah Fawcett’s longtime partner, Ryan O’Neal, is devastated that the late actress was omitted from the “In Memoriam” montage at last night’s 2010 Academy Awards, and is speaking out against the snub:
“It was a terrible decision and very hurtful. Farrah was a member of the Academy for over 40 years and we could not believe she did not get a mention. Both Tatum and I were very upset and we intend to write a letter to the Academy to try and get an explanation for this oversight on their behalf. They gave mentions to sound guys and other writers and without being disrespectful, Farrah Fawcett was an icon and a household name. Quite frankly, we were stunned at the decision not to include her in the tribute and I feel that the Academy should be scolded for that, everyone was shocked.”
The Academy Awards’ tribute section on Sunday night marked the deaths of stars including Brittany Murphy, Michael Jackson, and Patrick Swayze.
Leslie Unger, a rep for the Academy, tells Radar that “unfortunately we don’t include everyone.”
Producers of this weekend’s 82nd Annual Oscars have defended a slight that left ’70s sex symbol Farrah Fawcett out of the annual “In Memoriam” montage — which pays tribute to Hollywood stars who have died over the past year. The Charlie’s Angels actress died in June after a nearly three year battle against cancer, but she was absent from the Academy Awards’ tribute section on Sunday night, which marked the deaths of stars including Brittany Murphy and Patrick Swayze.
