Rihanna had been excepted to skip MTV’s 2010 Video Music Awards to remain in Hawaii, where she is filming scenes for her first feature film, Battleship. Instead, the style star managed to hop a plane to the City of Angels just in time for an opening performance with eight-time VMA nominee Eminem. The pair performed their hit duet, “Love the Way You Lie,” to optimum perfection.

“I definitely wish I could be there for Eminem. He’s performing the song we did together. It would have been nice to do it, but he understands. Obviously right now I’m doing something that is a priority to me. The VMAs will be there next year. I’ll have a lot more music out by then.”
Motor City rap aficionado Eminem — who has an astounding eight 2010 Video Music Award nominations to his credit — will now kick off the big show on MTV this Sunday.
Hip-hop heavyweight Eminem gets a little help from his fans in a spankin’-new promo for the 2010 MTV Music Video Awards!
The ad — which premiered to audiences on Tuesday — features this year’s most nominated male artist escaping from a fiery car crash with the help of a few Slim Shady Stans. The rapper explained that the visual is based on a scene from a classic 1954 flick starring Marlon Brando.
“It’s kind of a take on ‘On the Waterfront.’ Like, loosely. The car is exploding and I’m hurt.”
Eminem will take the stage for a live performance when the 2010 MTV VMAs — hosted by Chelsea Handler — air this Sunday, Sept. 12 @ 9PM EDT. The Recovery star is up for a whopping eight Moonmen at this week’s show.
