The legendary British singer, 62, has been seriously ill for two weeks, but his condition worsened and he was taken into an elite London hospital on Friday for tests.

On doctor’s advice the “Rocketman” singer has postponed US tour dates in Seattle and Portland, where he was scheduled to perform with Billy Joel over the next two weeks.

“The Elton John/Billy Joel Face 2 Face concerts originally scheduled for Wednesday, November 4, Saturday, November 7, and Tuesday, November 10, have been postponed,” a spokesperson said. “Organizers are working to establish new dates.”

On a visit to Ukraine with his AIDS Foundation, Eltonperformed his hit “Circle of Life” for children at the orphanage, and met the little boy “who stole his heart.”

“[Partner] David [Furnish] and I have always talked about adoption,” the singer told Reuters on Saturday. “David always wanted to adopt a child and I always said ‘no’ because I am 62 and I think because of the traveling I do and the life I have, maybe it wouldn’t be fair for the child,” Elton added.

“Having seen Lev today, I would love to adopt him. I don’t know how we do that but he has stolen my heart. And he has stolen David’s heart and it would be wonderful if we can have a home. I’ve changed my mind today.”

Also complicating their bid, is the fact that David, 62, and Elton are considered “too old “to look after the young boy because national laws state there must be no more than a 45-year age gap between a child and the adoptive parents.

If the adoption is successfully, Elton and David – who married in a civil ceremony three years ago – would also be required to adopt Lev’s brother under Ukrainian rules.

Sir Elton John has some choice words about California’s embattled Proposition 8, the ban on same-sex marriage that was passed by the people of California on November 4.

Suprisingly, the outspoken gay says he’s opposed to pushing for measures that would permit same-sex couples to marry.

The Rocket Man believes people of his persuasion should stick to civil unions and leave the marriage business to us heteros. It’s the word “marriage” that throws people off, Sir Elton explains.

Elton and his longtime partner David Furnish tied the knot in a civil partnership ceremony in Windsor, England in December 2005. The couple now live blissfully in UK with their two cocker spaniels, Marilyn and Arthur.

“We’re not married,” the music legend said on the red carpet at the annual benefit for his Elton John AIDS Foundation in New York City Monday night. “Let’s get that right. We have a civil partnership.”

Elton added, “I don’t want to be married. I’m very happy with a civil partnership. If gay people want to get married, or get together, they should have a civil partnership. The word marriage, I think, puts a lot of people off. You get the same equal rights that we do when we have a civil partnership. Heterosexual people get married. We can have civil partnerships.”

Elton John has changed his mind about dueting with mouthy pop singer Lily Allen following their famous spat at the 2008 GQ Men of the Year Awards earlier this month.

The “Rocketman” traded insults with the 23-year-old “Smile” star as they co-hosted the ceremony in London last week.

“I was thinking about asking her to tour with me and maybe even do a duet,” he said. “Obviously that won’t be happening now.”

Lily Allen says the media is being too big a stink out of the “good-natured” barbs she traded with music legend Elton John at the 2008 GQ Men of the Year Awards earlier this week.

“I’m not defending my drunkeness because i don’t need to, i’m 23 it was an awards ceremony i drank the free champagne, how awful of me,” Lily blogged on Friday.

Lily says there’s no feud between she and Sir Elton.

“Trying to create a feud on the other hand, and trying to make me out as being some rude little girl with a drink problem is just unfair,” she says. “Elton and I exchanged jokes and there were no hard feelings at all, in fact neither of us gave it a second thought.”

A visibly intoxicated Lily raged into a war of words with music legend Elton as they shared hosting duties at the 2008 GQ Men of the Year Awards in London Tuesday evening.

Lil lit into Sir Elton after she announced: “…And now the most important part of the night.”

“What? Are you going to have another drink?” the Rocket Man asked sarcastically.

“Fuck off, Elton,” the Smile singer ranted. “I am 40 years younger than you and have my whole life ahead of me!”

The twosome was sharing hosting duties at last night’s star-studded ceremony when they began trading a nasty barb of words after Lily made a quip about Sir Elton’s age.

As Lily told fans: “And now to the most important part of the night,” Elton asked the tipsy singer: “What? Are you going to have another drink?”

“Fuck off Elton. I am 40 years younger than you and have my whole life ahead of me!” the 23-year-old “Smile” star retorted.

“I could still snort you under the table,” Elton then proudly boasted, reference his previous addiction to cocaine.
